Nancy Hankenhof Obituary

Nancy "Nan" L. Hankenhof

January 15, 1938 - November 11, 2024

Nancy "Nan" L. Hankenhof, 86, of Temperance, Michigan, peacefully passed away, on Monday, November 11, 2024. Nan was born on January 15, 1938, to Eugene and Rose Marie (Louy) Grady. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1955, and married the love of her life, David Hankenhof, on June 20, 1959. They celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage in June, 2024.

Nan completed her teacher training at Mary Manse College, and taught at Catholic grade schools in the Toledo area. A woman of deep faith, Nan demonstrated her commitment to her family, friends, and community, through countless acts of love and generosity. She was an active parishioner at The Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Throughout her children's school years, Nan volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout Leader, librarian, and room mom. In 1980, Dave and Nan moved to Temperance, Michigan, and joined Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. There, she volunteered for church luncheons, participated in the Keenagers group, and, for over ten years, lovingly made greeting cards for homebound parishioners. Even during her time in hospice care, Nan continued creating her cherished cards, to bring joy to others.

Nan had the kindest heart. She found great happiness in gathering with her family and friends. Nan also enjoyed playing Scrabble, crocheting, sewing, cooking, attending Mass, and saying the Rosary.

Nan is survived by her devoted husband, David; children, Jane (David) Hankenhof Curry, Susan (John) Graham, John, Amy, and Marty; her cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Brittany, Christian, Aidan, Andrew, Elyse, Paige, Lauren, and Austin; as well as her great-granddaughter, Kollyns. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Linda Grady and Hollis Grady; brother-in-law, Ronald Glick; special friends, Joyce Schnitkey and Paula Poulos; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Eugene Jr. and Gerald Grady; and her grandchildren, Ashley Graham, and Ethan and Owen Hankenhof.

Nan deeply appreciated the outpouring of love, prayers, cards, flowers, and emails she received throughout her life, and during her illness. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., with the Rosary at 7 p.m., on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman), Temperance, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8330 Lewis Avenue, Temperance, Michigan, where she will lie in state after 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, or Notre Dame Academy. Those wishing to express words of encouragement, share a memory, or photo, may do so at www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
