Nancy Haughey

04/13/1927 - 07/16/2024

Nancy Swartz Haughey was born on April 13, 1927, to Clementa Miller Swartz and George Krumrine Swartz, MD in Dallas, PA. She graduated from Norristown High School in Norristown, PA and continued her education graduating from Pennsylvania State University. After college, she worked for Post Cereals in Battle Creek, MI, where she met her husband, Louis W. Haughey, a native of Battle Creek and Gull Lake. They lived in Ann Arbor, MI where their daughter Susan Haughey Gaertner (John) and son Jeffery L. Haughey (Beth) were born. The family moved to Sylvania, OH to start a professional business and added daughters Cindy Haughey Bockert (Warren) and Sally Haughey Slater and son Thomas S. Haughey to the family.

While the children were young, Nancy volunteered her time for many charitable organizations and became an avid bridge player, golfer and traveled the world. She was a long-time active member in golfing and swimming events at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania.

After the children were in school, Nancy attended the University of Toledo and reenacted her teaching certificate so she could teach in the Sylvania City Schools.

Upon retirement, Lou and Nancy became snowbirds to Sun City, FL and thereafter, permanently moved to Venice, FL where they enjoyed golfing at Jacaranda West Country Club.

Nancy had eight grandchildren, Michael Kibler, Stephen Kibler, Katie Bockert Myers, Kevin Bockert, Molly Haughey, Rachel Slater, Julia Slater and Hannah Slater. She had eight great-grandchildren, Joshua Kibler, Fisher Kibler, Tristan Kibler, Camden Kibler, Kendall Kibler, Grant Myers, Adelyn Myers and Evelyn Myers. She was predeceased by her husband, Lou; brother, George T. Swartz of Ft. Myers; children, Jeff and Sue and great-grandchild Camden. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband.

Mass will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Venice, FL on August 6, 2024..
