Shirley Schultz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ansberg-West Funeral Directors on Feb. 28, 2026.
Shirley L. Schultz, age 91, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026.

She was born on March 28, 1934, in Toledo, Ohio to Blanch and Allen Karpe. A proud 1952 graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Shirley continued her education at the University of Toledo, earning her Bachelor of Education degree in 1956.

Shirley devoted her life to caring for others. As an elementary school teacher at Whittier and Sherman Elementary Schools, she lovingly taught Kindergarten and second grade students until her retirement in 1987. Her gentle patience, warm smile, and steady encouragement left a lasting imprint on generations of children.

On June 8, 1957, she married the love of her life, Richard F. Schultz. Together they shared 44 beautiful years of marriage built on faith, devotion, and deep love.

Shirley truly had a servant's heart. She generously volunteered her time with Hospice, offering comfort and compassion to families in their most tender moments. She also faithfully served at Grace Lutheran Church. In her condo community, she was affectionately known as the neighborhood "Sunshine Lady," always delivering kindness, thoughtful notes, and cheerful encouragement. She found joy in her daily walks with her beloved dog and treasured the friendships she nurtured along the way.

Above all, Shirley's greatest joy was her family. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and her heart. The love she gave so freely will continue to guide and surround them always.

She is survived by her two sons, Douglas (Roxi) Schultz and Scott (Constance) Schultz; her grandchildren, Blake (Ian) Windsheimer, Haley (Michael) Wiseman, and Zachary (Kallie) Schultz; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Ryker, Rowyn, and Nolan.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, and her brother, Grant (Annette) Karpe.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Shirley on what would have been her 92nd birthday, March 28, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Graze Station, 3140 Markway Rd., Toledo, Ohio. We invite family and friends to gather, share memories, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

I enjoyed spending time with Shirley every summer at the backyard bbq for Zach's birthday. She brought great food, helped with anything needed. She also became friends with my parents, even coming to Christmas with our family (Constance's) .She was one of the family. She made the best Rice Krispie Treats. She did not share her secret although she insisted there was none. But the taste told the truth. They were the greatest.

Dear Scott, Doug and families. We are so deeply sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a beautiful lady and we always enjoyed her company when we gathered. She had a kind, lovely smile, and I know you have many wonderful memories to cherish. Our love and condolences to you, Lori and Bill Scheible
