Nestor Zambrano Obituary

Dr. Nestor Zambrano

Dr. Nestor Perez Zambrano, aged 83 and surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2021. He was the 8th of 9 children and was born on February 28, 1938 to Augustin and Maria (Perez) Zambrano, in Manila, Philippines. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Nestor was an excellent and respected physician who earned his Medical degree from Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines in May 1967. In July 1967, he immigrated to the United States to start his career in Medicine. First, he interned at Deaconness Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. He completed his residency in general surgery and family practice at Maumee Valley Hospital (now MCOT). Nestor was an ER Physician at Riverside Hospital and had a family practice in Walbridge, OH for 21 years. In the early 1990's, Nestor started a weight loss clinic for his patients and also made house calls which had become rare. He took pride in taking the time to listen to his patients and diagnosing their symptoms with one or two medical tests. A nurse who worked with him at Cordelia Martin Health Clinic said he was 99.9% correct in his diagnoses based on lab tests he would order. Nestor retired in 2011 at the age of 73.

Aside from Medicine, Nestor enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, chess, and billiards. While doing his internship in Milwaukee, Nestor earned extra money from playing billiards. As a child he helped his mother make Filipino sausages at the family's neighborhood store. He also sold newspapers on the streets of Manila. He had a strong work ethic throughout his life. He was a jack-of-all-trades, being quite adept at carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. Nestor was also an avid reader and particularly loved history.

In addition to his parents, 5 brothers, and older sister, he was preceded in death by his daughter Rachel Zambrano. Nestor will be greatly missed by his wife, of almost 59 years, Laureana; children, Rafael Zambrano and Rosemary (David) Riethmiller; grandchildren, Maxwell and Samuel Riethmiller, 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Memorial Services will be privately held for the family and close friends on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Newcomer – Northwest Toledo Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, OH 43623. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting
