Orval Gillaspie Obituary
Orval "Leo" Gillaspie, 83, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully, on June 5, after a brief courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 20, 1941, in Jefferson City, MO, to Joe and Edith Jewel Gillaspie.
Leo was a genuine spirit with a passion for life. He enjoyed social activities like cards, games, puzzles, watching sports, and going out to eat. One of his favorite pastimes, he was an accomplished golfer, and enjoyed many rounds of golf, golf trips, and tournaments.
He was a Navy veteran. Early in his Navy career, he was trained as a cardio pulmonary tech. Later he became a certified optician. He spent many years as an optician, traveled the country with Royal Optical, and during his retirement, worked part-time for the vision center at the Ann Arbor VA. He loved serving and helping people.
Leo was preceded in death by his brother, Rex Gillaspie; and survived by son, Joseph (Sandra) Gillaspie; sister, Betty Wobster; sister, Beverly (Dale) Jones. His memory will live on with many friends and loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held at Bunker Bar, Monday, July 14, 1950 S. Eber Rd, Holland, OH 43528, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Leo was my neighbor for the last 4 years, and I couldn't have asked for one better. He was such a kind soul, always looking out for others, and willing to lend a hand. He was my self-appointed dog sitter and always had treats to share! I'm so saddened to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family and many friends. He will certainly be missed!
