Patrick Szozda Obituary

Patrick Szozda

06/28/1936 - 05/29/2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick Jerome Szozda, Sr., who peacefully departed this life on May 29, 2024, at the age of 87, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. Patrick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He touched many lives with his lively spirit and enthusiasm for life.

Patrick was born on June 28, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio to Anna Maciejewski. Later in life, he married Marilyn Biggs where they enjoyed 50 years of married life before her passing in 2015. Patrick was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served his country with honor. Patrick grew up with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit, which was demonstrated when he opened his own business, Amber Tree Service. Patrick owned and operated his business until his retirement in 2016. His dedication and passion for his work left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with.

Known for his love of gambling, Patrick was often found at a card table, enjoying a round of Euchre with his family and friends, or at a local casino or club, where he enjoyed the thrill of the game and the friendship of his fellow players. He was a longtime member of the Eagles and the Maumee Legion. Although he did not always win at the game, he could always be seen with a smile or a mischievous grin.

In addition to his passion for gambling, Patrick loved to share a drink with friends and family. Whether it was a cold beer on a summer day or a glass of Kessler Whiskey to toast a special occasion, he believed that good company and good spirits were the perfect ingredients for making memories.

Patrick was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Maciejewski; his wife, Marilyn (Biggs) Szozda; and his brother, David Maciejewski.

Patrick is survived by his children, Patrick (JoAnn) Szozda, Jr. of Margate, FL, Conrad (Jodee) Szozda of Rockwood, MI, Shawn (Sandy) Szozda of Perrysburg, OH, Robert (Gail) Szozda of Kingston, TN, and Darrin (Rhonda) Mossing of Kingston, TN; stepdaughters, Pam DeBrosse and Kim Everingham; sisters, Susan Payne and Marcia Englehardt; eleven grandchildren, Jeremy, Taylor, Conrad Jr., Mason, Michael, Jason, Jordan, Robbie Jr., Savannah, Darrin Jr. and Alison; his loving friend, Mary Patricia Glover; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Patrick's life on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at The Club, located at 1128 N McCord Rd. Toledo, OH 43615. The Club (aka "Cousino's Club") was a favorite pastime spot for Patrick.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in honor of Patrick Jerome Szozda, Sr.

Hey Conrad, Pat, Robbie, Shawn et al

Sorry to hear about your Dad. He was a character--the kind of guy you could sit and have a beer with and listen to him tell stories. My condolences to all of you and your families. I am at our cabin for a reunion with Becky's sister and will not be able to make the service. But, I'll drink a Bush N/A in his honor this Wednesday.... John Szozda
