Pericles "Perry"

Pericles "Perry" Grivanos, age 76 of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 22, at Lutheran Home of Toledo. Perry was born December 5, 1937, to Savva and Katherine (Kyriakoudis) Grivanou in Nea Tenedos, Greece. He arrived at Ellis Island in 1953 at the age of 16 after an 18 day boat voyage. His travels brought him to Toledo, Ohio. He attended Woodward High School where he played trumpet in the band. Starting from humble beginnings, he met and married his wife Rita Baker of Toledo and later moved to Oregon, Ohio. With great pride, Perry became an American citizen in 1965. Perry worked for Seaway Warehouses for over twenty years. He retired from his own construction company.

Perry is survived by his devoted wife, Rita of 57 years; daughter, Kathy (Greg) Vermett; sons, Perry Grivanos and Tim Grivanos; daughter-in-law, Sue (Phillip) Grivanos; grandchildren, Jason and Kyle Coutcher, Casey Vermett, Pericles (Tiger), Spencer, Alex, Cori, and Megan Grivanos; great-granddaughter, Kennedi Coutcher; sisters, Liberty (Gust) Elmer and Athanasia (George, Grivanou) Kantaras, and many loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Perry was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Phillip.

Family and friends may visit from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 South Wynn Road in Oregon where the Trisagion Service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Freck Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Memorial Fund, 740 N. Superior Street, Toledo, Ohio 43604.

The loss of a love one is so hard to face,
you just want to hide,
go some where and escape!
But death is something,
we all must go through,
I know it's hard,
when it's someone you loved and knew.

Just know now,
he is in a better place,
no more hurt or pain shall he face.

but he is in Heaven now

Rita & Perry: It was with a heavy heart that I read on-line in the Blade this morning the passing of your husband and father. I enjoyed Perry's humor and his devotion to the kids when they were young and playing ball.
He was a hard worker and will be missed.

So sorry, Phil, to read about your father. What an interesting life, landing at Ellis Island and finding a new home in the United States. The last time I saw you, Phil, was back in the 90's at "The Flex Connection" workout club owned by Jim Mayzes, the Sylvania Southview football coach. My condolences to you and your family.
