Capt. Pete Gronwall, age 87, of Woodville, OH, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH. He was born on October 1, 1925, in Tonawanda, NY to Oscar and Hertha (Hanson) Gronwall. On December 28, 1968 he married Patricia Ann White in Toledo, OH, and she survives. For 52 years Pete was employed for the American Steam Ship Company, Buffalo, NY, where he was a Captain for many years. His memberships included: Clarence L. Nieman American Legion Post #455, Woodville, Ken-Ton Masonic Lodge #1186, Kenmore, NY, Tonawanda Masonic Lodge #247, Tonawanda, NY, Historical Society of the Tonwandas and American Maritime Officers Union. Pete served proudly in the United States Merchant Marines.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Pat; daughters, Sharon (David) Peter, Chantilly, VA, Marsha (Nicholas) Karas of Blasdell, NY, Loretta Gronwall of Oregon, OH; sons, Jeff Gronwall of Statenville, GA, Patrick Gronwall of Toledo, OH, Erik (Heidi) Gronwall of Woodville, OH; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; step-daughter-in-law, Chan Sun Atkins of Yukon, OK, and brother, Oscar (Olive) Gronwall of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Hertha "Heck" Gronwall; son, Peter H. Gronwall, and stepson, Charles Atkins.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 13, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home, 201 West Main Street, Woodville, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. from Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, OH, where there will be additional visitation from 10 a.m. until time of services. A bereavement luncheon will be served immediately following the funeral services. Officiating will be Rev. Kristina Ahlman.
