Philip C. "Phil" Neitz

Philip C. "Phil" Neitz, 73, of Rossford, Ohio, passed away on September 20, 2025, in the care of Mercy Health – Perrysburg Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 2, 1952, to Robert and Emma (Wentland) Neitz, Phil graduated from Rossford High School in 1970. He attended Ohio University before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo. He spent his career as a bartender at several area country clubs.

A devoted Cleveland sports fan, Phil especially loved baseball and football. He served as a longtime scorekeeper for Sylvania Southview girls basketball and enjoyed word puzzles, game shows, and reading mystery novels. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and lovingly cared for his mother in her later years. Phil cherished family gatherings, especially Christmas and Easter, and had a special bond with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by siblings, Robert Neitz, Donald (Christina) Neitz, and Lauryl Mitchell; aunt, Emily Neitz; brother-in-law, Glynn Steinke; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emma Neitz; sister, Cheryl Steinke; and brother-in-law, Kevin Mitchell.

The family thanks Bethlehem Lutheran Church for their support.

Phil was briefly my college roommate at Ohio U. Decades later, my daughter attended Toledo University and said "I bet you don't know anybody in Toledo" But I remembered Phil was from Toledo and looked him up. He was a gracious host and I spent several hours talking with him and his 90-something old mom. He was delighted we re-connected and relished when I sent an annual Christmas card, hopeful that I would one day return to Toledo. So sad to learn of his passing.

To Phil's family - my deepest condolences to you at Phil's passing. My ex-husband and I belonged to Heather Downs Club in the 1980's, when Phil was bartending there. He had the perfect personality and skills for his job - cheerful, so friendly, accommodating, genuinely interested in you and your life, treating everyone as if they were his best friend. Plus he remembered your favorite beverage! All the HDCC members loved him. Nearly 40 years later I can still hear his boisterous, cheery "hello" in my head! Quite some time ago I ran into him (at another local country club I believe) - it was so nice to see him again. He was a wonderful person!
