Phyllis A. Bockert
11/21/1932 - 7/27/2021
Phyllis Ann Bockert, age 88, of Lyons, Ohio, formerly Sylvania, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 27, 2021.
Phyllis was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 21, 1932, to the late Harry D. and Beulah (Howard) Wilson, both from Butler, Indiana. She was the youngest of thirteen children. She met the love of her life, William Bockert, at Sylvania Burnham Highschool. They were married on August 27, 1949, and they raised six sons and one daughter.
When their children were young, she worked off and on as a saleswoman for Sears Department Store and Robert Hall. She was also busy helping out at the Good News Club, a children's Bible study club for the Sylvania schools and drove a school bus for vacation Bible clubs at her church.
Phyllis was the executive director for the 1968 National Hemophilia Foundation's campaign in the Toledo area. In 1990 Phyllis served as President of the Lyons Literacy League and in 1991 she became the Founder of the Lyons and Area Historical Society, which remains to be thriving to this day.
She and her husband moved to Lyons in 1984 and restored a beautiful large house, both inside and out. She loved to decorate the house and she grew beautiful gardens. She was happiest when it was filled with family and friends. She loved to feed people and you couldn't get out of their house without your hunger satisfied and a gift in your hand. Phyllis especially loved all holidays. On Christmas Eve, the house was filled with family singing Christmas carols with her at the organ, followed by gifts galore. Phyllis cherished her husband and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren – always spoiling them. She and Bill were active members of Jasper Bible Church. She knew the Lord and shared her faith with others.
Along with her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William; brothers, Ronald, Lavon, Howard, Matthew (Bud), William, Jack and Jim; sisters, Etta Belle (Snyder), Virgina, Mary (Wright), and Donna; and grandson, Jeremy Bockert. Phyllis is survived by her children, William H., Wayne (Tish), Warren (Cindy), Westley (Barb), Walter (Jan), Wayde (Debbie) and Sandra (Dan) Smith; brother, Jerry (Mary) Wilson; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on August 28, 2021, at Jasper Bible Church, 8230 S. Adrian Highway, Jasper, Michigan 49248. Visitation 10:30 a.m., Service 11:00 a.m., luncheon 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
