Ralph Higgins Obituary

HIGGINS Ralph Vincent Ralph Vincent Higgins, 88, of Toledo, passed away on September 3, 2008, at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Swanton, Ohio on May 28, 1920 to John and Theresa (Reister) Higgins. After graduating from DeVilbiss High School, Ralph worked as a postal clerk prior to joining the Navy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater at Pearl Harbor during World War II. Ralph retired twice, first from his career as a postal supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service and second from his career as a security guard for the Toledo Museum of Art. He shared his love for travel, music and art and will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, polite demeanor and optimistic attitude. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Mike) McCormack of Medford, Oregon; his sister-in-law, Edith Higgins of Rocky River, OH, and five nephews, John (Marla) Higgins of Huron, Neil (Georganne) Higgins of Bourbonnais, IL, Mark and Timothy McCormack of Seattle, WA, and Steven McCormack of Vista, CA. Graveside services will be held at the Toledo Memorial Park, Section 2, Sylvania, Ohio on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Ohio Veterans Home, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky is in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph is a delightful and fond memory. He was a dear family friend. Not only was he a cultured and interesting person, but, also, an inspirational example of a life well lived. I am fortunate to have known him during this life´s journey.
