Rebecca Jeffries Obituary

Rebecca Faye (Bowling) Jeffries

Rebecca Faye (Bowling) Jeffries died Sunday, May 13, 2018, following a lengthy battle with sepsis, at Firelands Community Hospital with family by her side.

Born in Pikeville, KY on January 14, 1947, to Russell and Betty Bowling, "Becky" was the oldest of three children. The family moved to northern Ohio, near Toledo, where they attended Northwood schools, and Rebecca met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles Jeffries. Rebecca is survived by her sister, Carolyn (Bowling) Siemieracki; her brother, Russell Marvin Bowling, his wife Jess; her children, Kimberly Renee (Jeffries) Mantkowski, Todd Alan Jeffries, and Angela Hope Jeffries; three grandchildren, Justin Michael Mantkowski, Aaron Gunner Morris, and Amber Michelle Jeffries; Carolyn's children, Jamie, Jennifer and Stephanie; and Russell's children, Erica, Tristan, and Jacob. She also leaves very close friends, Richard Hensley and Kelly Nimrichter.

In her younger years, Rebecca enjoyed music and teaching her children to play sports, going for long rides in the county to enjoy the scenery and fresh air, and have sing alongs during the drive, often at night to point out the stars, the phases of the moon and all of God's creation. She also taught her children not to be boxed into traditional roles by working as a welder and sand blaster. Being raised in a patriotic and military family, her most proud work project was being chosen as the sand blaster to create the set piece for the movie "In Country" of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall that held the name in the movie close up of the wall. She also enjoyed crafts such as quilting and jewelry making. She loved to sing until numerous bouts with pneumonia caused her to develop pulmonary fibrosis, which began stealing her voice.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her beloved parents, WW II Veteran Russell Bowling and Elizabeth Virginia (Vandergriff) Bowling, and dear aunts and uncles.
