Richard Borer Obituary

Richard J. Borer

Richard James Borer, born to Alphonse Borer and Clara (Stanley) Borer on May 1st, 1941, in Toledo, OH, passed away suddenly surrounded by family on July 7th, 2024. Richard, known to many as Dick, devoted his life to his family, faith, and community. He served as the President of the Ohio Regional Council of Catholic Young Adults, the same organization where he met his cherished wife of 53 years, Jane (Raymond) Borer.

A lifelong member of the Catholic Church, Dick committed himself to years of service, holding roles on the parish council, serving as an usher, lector, and festival chair. His deep faith guided him throughout his life and provided a foundation for his many contributions to the church.

Dick's greatest joy was his family. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, always making time for them and ensuring they knew how much he loved them. His lap was a welcoming place where his grandchildren often found comfort and love. Dick courageously battled cancer for the last 5-years.

A graduate of St. James Grade School and Central Catholic High School, class of 1959, Dick went on to retire from Tenneco Automotive. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying both bowling and playing softball in his leisure time.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved siblings, Mary (Borer) Rahn, Catherine "Kate" (Borer) Papenfus, and Louise (Borer) Ziemkiewicz; and son-in-law, Erik Cline.

He is survived by his dedicated wife of 53 years, Jane (Raymond) Borer; and his loving children Jennifer (Brad) McMonigle, Julie (Aaron) Weeks, Marty (Meredith) Borer, and Gregory (Lauren) Borer. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Anna King, Garett Weeks, Samuel Cline, Riley McMonigle, Aidan McMonigle, Gabriel Weeks, Brayden Borer, Gabriella Borer, Audrey Borer, Avery Borer, and Kelty Borer. He also leaves behind his brother and lifelong cribbage partner, William (Bill) Borer, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard James Borer will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to visit Friday, July 12, 2024, from 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Carmel in Temperance, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Catherine of Siena, Toledo, OH.

Dick was a terrific person and I am glad that to have known him. Enjoyed playing football with him and appreciate the work he did to organize our class reunions. My condolences to Jane and family!

I met Dick and Jane some 25+ years ago, through the bi-monthly dinner gatherings of St. James School alumni. My late husband, David, was the alumni, and the group graciously welcomed me along. We shared many years of dinners and good conversations with the Borers. My sympathy goes out to Jane and her family in this greatest of loss.
