Richard Eggers Obituary

Richard Louis Eggers, Jr.

Richard "Rick" Louis Eggers, Jr. passed away peacefully and comfortably at the end of his battle with cancer on April 11, 2022 with family by his side. Rick was born in Portland, Oregon on January 24, 1950 to Richard Louis Eggers, Sr. and Beverly Garnet Eggers. He was the second born and oldest son of their seven children. He led a faith based life early on graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1968. He pursued many different career paths retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor with the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority "LMHA" in 2012.

Rick gained a passion for sailing from his father. He loved adventures on the sailboat with his wife to the various islands of Lake Erie. They enjoyed many overnight visits to Put-in-Bay where they would always be sure to stop in for lobster bisque at their favorite restaurant, The Boardwalk. A trip wasn't complete for him without a beer and slice of pizza from Frosty's. He loved the outdoors whether it be fishing, bird watching, cutting the grass, working on projects, or just enjoying the morning on the back patio with his wife taking in nature. He was a people person who loved spending time with family and friends to the point where he never met a stranger. He was happy go lucky and always put a smile on your face.

Rick had an eye for handy work and loved sharing his gift of knowledge with others. He took pride in remodeling the old farm house he and his wife called home. Together they made so many improvements to the property including the back patio where they spent most of their time together and entertaining their guests. He will be missed and remembered by many.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Beverly Eggers, Sr.; his older sister, Jeanne Eggers; friend and step-son, William W. Frank. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 32 years, Phyllis Ann Eggers; his children, Richard L. (Elizabeth) Eggers III, Jeffery (Kelly) Eggers, Corey (Chelsea) Eggers; his step-children, Kathy Thompson, Loraine (Gerald) Newman, Luanne (Eric) Craft, Ron (Jamie) Frank, and Dan Frank; his siblings, Patrick (Patricia) Eggers, Mary (Criss) Sayre, Laurie (Sam) Hull, Thomas Eggers, and Christine (Kennth) Eyre; as well as 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and their beloved cat, Freddy.

There will be no public services as the families will honor him privately at a later date. To leave a special message for Rick's family, please share a memory.

Rick, I'm very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I only have memories from when I was a young 12-13 year old girl but your Dad was always so kind and funny. Sounds like he was a wonderful guy and I wished I had known him (and you) longer than that brief period in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
