Richard McIntyre Obituary

McINTYRE

Richard Barrett

Richard Barrett McIntyre, age 75, of Ottawa Hills, passed away on August 13, 2014, at Cleveland Clinic. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 24, 1938, to George and Anne McIntyre. Richard grew up in California and later moved to Indiana and graduated from Angola High School. He then attended Indiana University where he learned his love of entrepreneurial pursuits. His long, illustrious career began in sales at General Telephone and Pitney Bowes. He then would become his own boss when he started the businesses of QSI and Microstate Billing. In 1974, "Mac" began POS/ ExpressBill, a successful print and mailing company. ExpressBill grew rapidly under Richard's talented business expertise and would later become the nation's largest provider of healthcare print and mail services. In 1998, ExpressBill was sold to Envoy Corporation and later WebMD, a leader in health information services.

More important than his business acumen, Richard's unconditional love for his family and those with whom he worked was his greatest gift. The man, "who never stopped smiling" was a true lover of others. Always ready to ask someone about their life and their goals, Mac endeared himself to so many, whether he met them briefly during his daily routine or knew them for many years. His family and many friends will miss his jovial, fun-loving, and positive outlook on life. Never once complaining about his health, he lived life to the utmost and was vigorous and strong up until his passing. No one was too insignificant for Richard to extend a warm and friendly greeting. This rare, selfless spirit was his trademark.

Richard was a dedicated husband and grandfather. He loved spending time with his beautiful wife, Jacquie, his three boys, and all of his grandchildren. A consummate story-teller, he delighted his family often with long and colorful tales of his life. He also loved the game of golf (to be celebrated on "his 70th" with a trip to Ireland with his sons) and spent many joyful years with his "back room" friends at Highland Meadows. A boater, golfer, traveler, faith-filled man, Mac was a one of a kind. We will carry his bright spirit with us in all our memories of this special man: "Carry- on Buckaroos!"

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Jacquie; her daughters, Shannon (Carmine) Petruzello, and Colleen; his sons, Patrick (Sarah), Michael (Janey), and T.J (Molly); his loving sister, Annie (Frank) Dulinsky; grandchildren, Laura, Nick, Will, and Colin; Andrew, Jack, Tommy, and Peter; Rowan, Shea, and Cassidy; Jack and Luke; Lily, Sara and Ryan.

"The Lord is my shepherd;

there is nothing I lack.

In green pastures you let me graze;

to safe waters you lead me;

you restore my strength.

You guide me along the right path

for the sake of your name.

Even when I walk through a dark valley,

I fear no harm for you are at my side,

your rod and staff give me courage."

Dear McIntyre family,

Where do I start? I owe so much of who I am and who I have become to your father, grandfather, husband. I believe I was about nine or ten when my mother started cleaning the Michigan Ave. house in Charlevoix. Mac was the most generous person I have ever met and has done so many wonderful things not only for my mother by employing her, but by taking us in as a part of your family. Being able to be a part of your's and Mac's life has made me a better person and also a more generous one as well. I never knew either of my grandfathers, but at times it felt as though Mac was one for me. I know it's a tough time for you all, but please know it's because of generous people like Mac and the rest of your family that a small town girl dreamed big and followed those dreams. Mac, thank you for believing in my mother as a person so that she could believe in me. You've been a great role model for all who knew you. It's never goodbye but as the Lakotas out here in South Dakota say, "Toksa Ake". See ya later!

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time. Mac did the Microfilming for the Medical Office where i was working and I want you to know it was a real pleasure working with him. He was always so cheerful and outgoing. The price was very reasonable and the work he did was excellent.When he entered the gates of Heaven the Lord said "Job well done good and faithful servant" Nona Croskey
