Richard John



Richard J. Sarno, 95, formerly of Jacksonville, FL and currently of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 30, 2014. He passed on four days after the death of his wife of 71 years. His body evidently knew that his purpose on earth was completed. Richard was born in Boston, MA on June 12, 1919, to Vito Lamuscio and Antoinette Sardino.

Richard grew up in Boston and at the age of 17 joined the Marine Corps. He met Ruth Bond while in Jacksonville, FL and they married in 1943. He served in the Marines for 20 years and fought as a tail gunner in both WWII and the Korean War. He retired from active duty in 1958. From 1958 to 1970, he worked in the civil service as a Civilian Equipment Specialist at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL.

Richard was the second oldest of seven children. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James, Benjamin, Mary, Frances and Agnes. He is survived by sister, Ann Alongi.

Ruth and Richard had three children, Rickye (Henry) Heffner, Richard Sarno Jr. (deceased) and Rudi Jenkins. He is also survived by grandchildren, Henry (Sarah), Peter (Cathy), Kristin, Casey (Justin) and Danielle, and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the Reed Chapel at Swan Creek, 5916 Cresthaven Lane in Toledo, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Independence, 5810 Southwyck Blvd, Toledo, OH (419-865-1499).
