Richard Swartzell Obituary

Richard "Dick" Kay Swartzell

Richard "Dick" Kay Swartzell, age 89, of Lambertville, MI passed away peacefully on August 19, 2018, at Ebied Hospice Center in Sylvania, OH surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 1, 1929 in Harrisburg, PA and was the son of Mabel and Clifford Swartzell. Richard graduated from William Penn High School in Harrisburg, PA and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Richard worked at Schindler Haughton Elevator Company for 45 years in numerous progressing roles of responsibility until his retirement. His passions and interests included international travel, music, sports, card games, animals, and computers, along with being an active member of the Lambertville United Methodist Church that he loved so much. Dick was also a member of the Toledo Exchange Club, Zenobia Shrine, High Twelve Club, and the Masons.

He was married to the love of his life, Joanne, for 64 beautiful years. Richard is survived by his loving wife Joanne, along with his daughter Janis, son Richard, granddaughter Kendall, and his beloved cat, Buster Brown.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jeanine Huttner, home health nurse Carrie Brancheau, and the many church members who provided kind support during this challenging time.

The family will hold a Memorial service for Richard and receive friends of the family on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at the Lambertviille United Methodist Church at 8165 Douglas Road in Lambertville, Michigan at 11:00 a.m. The family requests any memorial donations be made to the Monroe County chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Association, or Lambertville United Methodist church.

Richard was one my "transport" people with Cancer Connection.
We developed a special bond when he mentioned he had repaired the hospital elevator in my home town (Wauseon).
I loved taking him and Joanne to his appointments.
I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
Condolences and happy memories to you all.

I had the honor of driving Richard to some of his chemo appointments. He and Joanne were wonderful people, always entertaining and plenty of stories. We also made a connection when he mentioned he maintained the elevators in my home town, Wauseon.
I did not know of his passing until I asked about him yesterday.
I am so sorry-this world lost another angel.
Condolences to you...

Mr. Swartzell will be missed. I have a lot of happy memories of parties, dinners, pain killers and margaritas! What a great guy. Instead of a stairway to heaven, I'm sure he's taking an elevator!

I'm saddened to read of Dick's passing. I had the privilege of working with Dick on many occasions and as a result learned much about the industry and people. He will be missed.
