Richard Towns Obituary

Richard "Dick" Jack Towns

Richard (Dick) Jack Towns was called to be with the Lord in the eternal glories of heaven on Monday, January 18, 2021. He was born on February 24, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to parents Alex and Nell (Taylor) Towns. He graduated from Swanton High School and studied Business Administration at the University of Toledo.

Dick married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann (Klein), and was richly blessed with 66 years of marriage and a wonderful family including sons, Brad and Jeano (Oldiges) Towns, Brian and Deb (Williams) Towns; daughter, Brenda (Towns) and Dave Tabbert; grandchildren, Kristi, Ryan, Kiel, Tyler, Mike, Jim, and Dave; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Logan, Cooper, Luke, Sawyer, Madilyn, and Forrest; and also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Pilliod and Virginia Lawrence.

He worked at Owens Corning for over 30 years and was instrumental in the development and implementation of many computer systems for their financial accounting department. In addition to his work at Owens Corning, he was a past-President of the Data Processing Management Association and an accounting advisor and mentor for Toledo Jr. Achievement students. He was a member of the Catholic faith at Immaculate Conception- Marygrove, Ohio, St. Joseph - Sylvania, Ohio, and St. Mary's of the Lakes - Manitou Beach, Michigan. After retirement, Dick served as a substitute teacher at Davis Business College and the University of Toledo.

Besides his love of his family, Dick loved to hunt and fish. He was past-President of the Berkey Sportsman Club and the "unofficial Program Director" of the Loonies Fishing Club for over 35 years; a tradition his sons and grandsons also love and carry on. He enjoyed the cottage at Devil's Lake, Michigan with family and friends, and reading history books, particularly about American Indians and the wild west.

We rejoice in the Lord for all of the blessings bestowed upon us as husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend, and mentor, through his good and faithful servant, Dick Towns.

Private services were held. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Walker Funeral Home (419-841-2422) has assisted the family and condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
