Robert BAUERSCHMIDT Obituary

BAUERSCHMIDT Robert P. Robert P. Bauerschmidt, age 88, formerly of Perrysburg, OH passed away peacefully on Thursday morning May 3, 2012, in his Orlando, FL home surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born on May 26, 1923, in his home on W. Harrison St. in Maumee, OH to Joseph N. and Frances E. (Nachtrab) Bauerschmidt. Bob graduated from Maumee High School in 1942. He served in the Army Signal Core until World War II ended. His training began at Camp Perry through Camp Crowder, shipping overseas on the "U.S.S. General Willard Holbrook" to Brisbane, Australia. In July 1944 Bob married Ethel Mary Hennessy whom he met at a Red Cross dance in Townsville, Australia. Returning to Ohio with his Australian bride, Bob resumed his prior pre-war employment with Airway Electric Company until being hired by the Toledo Blade as a compositor in March of 1947. Bob was promoted in 1972 to Assistant Plant Engineer in the production department. He and his wife resided in Perrysburg, OH where they lived and raised 6 children. Following the death of his wife in 1985, Bob retired from the Toledo Blade Newspaper in 1986 after 40 years. A friend once quoted, "The 1960s were the "Golden Age of Printing." After retiring, Bob then attended Lourdes College where he met Sandy Naumann whom he married in 1987 and helped raise her 4 children. They continued to live in Perrysburg before moving to Orlando, FL in December 1992. Bob loved to golf 3 days per week; active in the Catholic Church; meditated daily; enjoyed word search and puzzles, and especially loved tinkering and repairing in his "home workshop," and spending time with his large family. Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy E. Bauerschmidt of Orlando; children, Mary P. (Paul) Berning of Toledo, OH, Debra (Steve) Ferguson of Toledo, OH, Robert T. Bauerschmidt of Dallas, TX, Michael W. (Lois) Bauerschmidt of New Braunfels, TX, and Kerry J. Bauerschmidt of Redondo Beach, CA; step-children, Robert J. (Alicia) Naumann of South Lyon, MI, Holly M. (John) Bruinsma of Orlando, FL, Jennifer A. Naumann of Toledo, OH and Cathy A. (Ian) Pague of Cocoa, FL, and daughter-in-law, Sandi (Phil) Bauerschmidt-Dombey of Grand Rapids, OH. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pat (Ken) Dickey, Don G. (Daphne) Bauerschmidt, Jim Bauerschmidt, and Frances "Sis" Waltman. In addition to his parents and wife Ethel, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. Bauerschmidt; first grandaughter, Triss Smith; brothers, Bill and Joe Bauerschmidt, and sisters-in-law, Taeko and Sally. To Bob, and all the Bauerschmidt family;
I am so sad to read about your terrific father's passage of this life, but rest assure that he is in a better place. We all know that your father was as fine a citizen as could be, and he served his country well in WWII. We owe our way of life to people like him.

May I extend my deepest sympathy in your time of utmost grief.

Sandy and family, so very sorry for your loss, It was a round-a-bout way that we learned of his passsing. His grand-daughter works with our cousin Barb, as a nurse at St.V's (i think), and she mentioned it to Barb, who immediately started calling around and telling the family here in Toledo. Bob will be remembered in a novena of masses to be celebrated by some of my classmates at the Passionist Monastery in Chicago. God bless and care for you and the whole family in these hard times.
