Robert Chapinski Obituary

CHAPINSKI

Robert J.

Robert J. Chapinski, 71, of Oregon, Ohio was born on January 23, 1944, and passed away on November 17, 2015, with his family by his side, and under the magnificent care of the Hospice Team at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. Bob left this Earth to be reunited with his other loved ones in Heaven. There, he will be greeted by his father, Leo; his mother, Pauline; his stepfather, John L.; his sister, Francis; his brother, Johnny Mac, and many other family members and friends.

Because his father died at such an early age, Bob never expected to live as long as he did. He would often joke "if I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself." Still, he lived a fulfilling life. He especially enjoyed fishing and gardening where he shared time with his family on the occasional excursion to a mud bank on the Toussaint or Portage River, or a spring day planting the family vegetable garden, where the rows had to be perfectly straight and the soil tilled until it was like sand. He also always looked forward to a good thunderstorm, where he would be found on his back porch or garage witnessing the wonders of nature.

Bob was very proud of his time serving in the Army. He served in the early 1960s in the heart of the Cold War. He was promoted during his tenure in the Army, and achieved the rank of Corporal. He would tell stories about entrepreneurial endeavors that he participated in while serving and he brought that spirit back home where he started his own real estate brokerage in the early 1970s.

What he was most proud of though, was his family. He was married to his wife Donna, and they had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed bragging about his 4 children, Mark and (Debbie) Chapinski, Shelley and (Keith) Hancock, Calley and (Jay) Hovis, Kathy and (Steve) Coffman and 6 grandchildren, Christopher, Connor and Courtney Chapinski, Samuel Hancock, Ashley Tabbert (Calley) and Breanna Coffman all of whom he had nicknamed. Although the nicknames were not always flattering, it was his way of telling you that you were part of HIS family. He also was very close with his sister, Mary and his uncle, Herschel, who were the two remaining members of his paternal family with which he kept in touch. He also was very fortunate to have childhood friends with whom he still spoke with regularly.

Current events and politics also interested him, and he never shied away from a robust conversation to discuss his point of view. But, he never ended a discussion until he knew it would end with you still be friends. Everyone who knew him described him as "a nice guy."

His family would like to thank all of those who were there to help during his last days and hours, especially, Drs. Jain and Shelky, Hospice nurses Maxine and Jo Ellen, and Pastor Don Giesmann.

He will be missed by all who knew him!
