Robert McCloud Obituary

McCLOUD

Robert M. II

Robert M. McCloud II, age 75, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. Bob was born August 6, 1940, to Robert and Lenore McCloud in Bowling Green, Ohio. He was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School where he was a standout football player and a member of the DeVilbiss Football Hall of Fame. He and his father were the only father and son to both be members of the hall of fame at DeVilbiss. Later, Bob attended the Bowling Green State University. His high school football coach, Hilton Murphy, always said that "Bob McCloud was the toughest son-of-a-gun I ever coached". Bob was recruited by BGSU and Michigan State University for football but chose to stay in Toledo to marry his high school sweetheart, Carol Eckstein. Bob always gave 100%, whether it was in school, sports, or business. He was self driven and started his own business, R. McCloud and Associates, specializing in sports novelties. Bob liked to work hard and play hard. He was very loyal and a true family man. Bob stopped by his parents to visit daily, even after marrying and starting his own family. He was a great guy and a wonderful, caring husband.

Bob was a people person and a "professional socializer". He was very loyal to his many friends and always had a kind word to say. Bob loved sports, especially football, and enjoyed cheering his grandkids on at their games and events. He was also emotional and sensitive with a soft spot for the underdog.

Bob was one of the founding members of the Bakers Dozen and the Do It Group. He was a past member of the Toledo Elks, #53. He loved vacationing in Florida, especially at Coral Cay in Ft. Lauderdale.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Carol; sons, Robert,III (Nanette) and Michael (Kelly Cochrell-McCloud); daughters, Kristin (Brad) Lockridge, and Jennifer (Gus) Mancy; grandchildren, Justin McCloud, Kaylee McCloud, Lauren McCloud (Kyle Elkins), Logan McCloud, Leah McCloud, Andru and Evan Lockridge, and Jon, Olivia, and Joey Mancy; brother, James (Kathy) McCloud; sisters, Joane (James) Turner and Jill (Terry) Harris; numerous nieces and nephews; many very close friends; and one person he could always call to review any football play or to discuss Fox News politics, Ron Buermele.

Visitation will be Monday, January 11, 2016, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Do-it Group, www.doitparty.com, Do-it, 411 Michigan Ave., Toledo, OH 43604 or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be shared at

Bob the All City Tackle was BIGGER THAN LIFE to me as a 14 year old freshman at DeVilbiss High School in September of 1957. I knew who Bob was walking past him in the halls or on the practice field but didn't know Bob until much later. I became friends with classmate sister Joan and later in 1960 little brother Jim and finally little sister Jill who was in my Orientation class at Start High School in 1966. Thankful for support of Bob Sr. & Lenore at Start Sideliners. Proud and thankful for the friendship of ALL the McCoud's.

Carol and family ~ my deepest sympathy on the loss of Bob. I had the pleasure of being his Customer Service Rep at Glenncraft. I enjoyed many conversations with Bob over the years and shared many laughs. The most impressive thing about him to me was his love for his family. He always spoke with pride about his wife, children and grandchildren He was a remarkable man who will be missed by all who knew him!

My thoughts and prayers are with all the McCloud family. As I walked the halls of DeVilbiss High School in 1957, Bob was a walking legend of that great 1957 Tiger football team. I remmeber that first victory over Central in Page stadium. So many great memories of your family, Bob and your Mom and Dad. Joane, Jim, Jill I am thinking of you at this time of your loss.

As I read Nancy Forderer's tribute, I had to smile at the memories. Ken was one of the "Leos" at the Leo Party and he, Bob and Larry were just what a Leo should be - loud, funny and warm. Every time I think of Bob I have to smile, because it always made me happy to be around him. I send my love to Carol and family and hope that Ken, Bob and Larry are having a great reunion now.

Bob was one of Larry's Forderer's very best friends. I remember going to Carol and Bob's for dinner and then when we were leaving Bob would walk us out to the car, and he
and Larry would continue talking for over an hour before we actually left.

After Larry died, Bob called me almost every other day to see how I was doing. His support and words meant so much to me at that time.

In the early 1970's, Bob and Carol and Larry and I planned a family trip to Disney World and Cape Kennedy. We rented a gargantuan mobile home, large enough to accommodate four adults, eight kids, and one baby-sitter, and drove from Toledo to Cocoa Beach Florida. Bob and Larry shared the driving. It was a vacation we would talk of long after we returned as we watched the slides and laughed hysterically remembering the fun and the mishaps. The daily sight, was Bob and Larry carrying together the loaded cooler to the beach.

During the 1970's when women's hair pieces (we called them wiglets) were all the rage, Bob got an assortment of wiglets for all of us and provided us with all the hair care products we could ever want.

Larry and I had a Leo party at our house on Charlestown. (celebration for those born in the astrological period from late July into August). Carol and Bob came (Carol in her new hot pants) and the very loud and raucous party extended late in to the night. I think it was in the late 1970's. Later we found Carol and Bob asleep on our front lawn. I'm not sure they never lived that down.

Bob totally enjoyed life, deeply loved Carol and his kids, and so valued all his many friends. When you talked to him, he really listened and cared about what you said. He had an enormously generous heart.

A Few of Many Memories:
Road Tripping to Ohio State vs. U. of M. games each year and the craziness that often
took place in the hotels where we stayed. I seem to remember once- the BobsMcCloud Wasserman, and Loeb dressed in Carol, Kay, and Mary's underwear parading in the hall. And I recall once being warned by hotel management that we were in danger of being ejected if we didn't quiet down.

Attending a Roberta Flack concert in downtown Toledo. For some reason I can't recall Carol and I were steaming mad at Bob and Larry, so we took the car and drove home. Bob and Larry took a cab part of the way, and then came dragging in to make it look like they had to walk all the way home.

Dinners or cook-outs together at each other's homesMcClouds, Turners, Shaws, Cappelletty's, Loebs, Wasserman's, Forderer's were always delicious, laughter-filled, fun occasions that lasted long into the night.

On behalf of the Forderer Family:

What a huge loss. You will not be forgotten. You are one of My Dad's trusted "Go To Guys". You have touched each one of the Forderer's and we each have our own unique "Mr. McCould" very special memories.

Memories from Coco Beach (see photo, ps that's you in the doorway), to Indian Guides :), to countless sails on Engender, The Drug Corner Family, and when I was 9 after my eye operation (by Dr. Koop) you made a special trip to the house to the house on Charlestown to see me, assure me I would be ok, and gave me a shiny silver dollar.

Mr. McCloud...I will never forget our private talks at my Dad's Funeral where you told me "anything you or your family needs, you call me and I will be there".

Please know that on top of all the epic great times and special memories you have been a part of, that you have been a personal mentor to me. Your loyalty to and value you place on family and friends is second to none.

My deepest sympathies and prayers to my friends Bob III and Mike, their mother Carol, sisters Kristi and Jennifer and the entire McCloud family. In addition to all his other way above bar qualities, he was an awesome father figure to so many more. Bob McCloud was a granite pillar in the neighborhood where he raised his family. As a long time family friend, the great memories are countless. If "Mr. McCloud" was "mad" at you, you did something wrong and he wanted to be sure you learned from it, because he cared. He cared about all of the kids, and everything in the neighborhood. Seeing him recently, he took the time to stop and talk. I realized that he was also a true friend, to all. "Mr. McCloud", Bob. You will be missed but long remembered, and remembered with a smile. Heaven is a better place today, as we say goodbye. Rest in Peace.
