Robert Rahman Obituary

Robert E. Rahman Jr.

Robert E. Rahman Jr., age 73, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in Hospice of Northwest surrounded by family and friends. Robert was born on August 10, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert and Jean (Carsten) Rahman. He graduated from St Francis de Sales High School in 1962. Bob attended U.T. for a year before joining the US Marine Reserves, serving from 1963-1969. On May 22, 1965 he married his friend for life, Mary Burge. Together, they had a son and a daughter.

Bob started his working career at Kroger in 1960 and held various positions. In 1966, Bob started his 5 year apprenticeship for Local 50 Plumbers and Pipefitters. He worked for Graham Plumbing, Bradwell, Campbell, Inc. and Dimech Services before retiring in 2005 with 40 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, traveling, and attending his grandsons' sporting events. He also enjoyed playing games and spending time with his family, friends and granddogs. Bob spent 32 years of great times at Dewey Lake in Brooklyn, MI. He enjoyed spending countless hours pulling his children, grandsons and neighbors skiing, tubing, and knee boarding behind his boat. Bob felt fortunate and honored to have had the opportunity to be a driver for Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio. He was also a proud member of the Bradwell Breakfast Club.

Bob was diagnosed on September 12, 2012 with stage 4 prostate cancer. He endured various treatments during his battle with the disease. During that battle, he was fortunate enough to take the trip of a lifetime with his whole family to Alaska.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Mary; daughter, Tamra Rahman; son, Robert (Kerri) Rahman and 4 grandsons, Andrew, Brandon, Seth and Trent. Also surviving are his mother, Jean Rahman; his 4 brothers, Donald (Elaine), Kenneth, Thomas (Doris), and Jeffrey (Holly) Rahman and his sister, Patricia (Tim) Armstrong. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert and his sister, Sharon McPherson.

Robert's Life Celebration will take place Monday, July 30, 2018 at Urbanski Funeral Home, a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd., Toledo, Ohio from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning until the Funeral Service begins at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in Toledo Memorial Park, after cremation takes place. I feel lucky to have Bob as a neighbor and best friend when I lived across the street before moving to Florida. I did visit Bob just days before his passing, and shared past stories and even some tears.
He will always be in my memory book, still miss his humor.
God bless him.

He lives on in memories our families shared for the years as neighbors and later. So glad I was able to visit him in early July that year and share a few stories. Miss our phone conversations as well as the hometown visits. Forever friend,

I extend my sympathy to the family. I worked with him at Bradwell in the Service Department. He was always dependable, professional, and friendly. Sorry for your loss.

The Schuele family sends heartfelt condolences to Mary, Tammy, and Bobby. Bob was my son, Craig's, godfather. One could always count on Bob to be calm, cool, and collected in any situation. A loving man who, always, put his family first.

It was an honor to have worked for Bob as an apprentice then with Bob as a journeymen at Dimech services. I had the privilege of working side by side with Bob the last month of his working career with UA Local 50 at The Toledo hospital. Bob was also the first guy I ever drank a Manhattan with (and the last one LOL) Thanks Brother for all the knowledge you bestowed upon me.

Somewhere along the road you'll meet a lifetime friend. Bob was that friend.
Living across Elm Place, our kids played
and we partied. Never forget our attempt
at fitness by jogging in the winter. Would have done us good except the winter had other plans. That winter sent me to Florida, but we never lost touch.
Mary never forgot a birthday. Their visits to Florida and ours to Toledo were not often, but we could step right in like it was yesterday.
Bob,I hear the fishing is great upstairs, so keep the boat ready so we can fish again someday.

I knew Bob nearly all my life as he lived next door to my parents growing up. They still lived next door and we spent many holidays together. I will never forget the look on his face when I told him my dad died. The world was a better place and especially our street was a better place with him in it.
