SUBER Robert James June 19, 1937 - March 19, 2008 Robert James Suber, 70, of Deshler, Ohio accepted his invitation to God's house on Wednesday evening, March 19, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 19, 1937, in Deshler to Leo J. and Eileen (Overly-Harris) Suber. On August 26, 1961, he married Judee M. Longbrake at the Deshler United Methodist Church and she survives. Bob graduated from Deshler High School in 1955 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in December of 1955. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in December of 1958 and transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves until 1961. Bob first worked for his father at Deshler Foundry and Machine Works and then was a machinery repairman at the former Columbus Bolt of Deshler. He then moved to Hialeah, Florida and became vice president of Hialeah Metal Spinning. In 1975 he returned home to Deshler to own and operate Deshler Metal Working, his father's former business. Deshler Metal Working is the oldest family business in Deshler and is currently in its 5th generation with Bob's son, Jim as the general manager. He was a member of Deshler United Methodist Church and its Board of Trustees. He was a member of Sycamore Lodge #520 F. & A.M., Deshler and the Deshler Chapter of Royal Arch Masons #201. Aside from his family, his greatest love was for his country. Bob was a very Patriotic American and this was evident in Deshler every 4th of July. For the past 14 years, he would welcome family, friends and the entire community to share in the annual "Suber Fireworks". He always remained a proud marine and for several years he honored his fellow soldier by playing "Taps" with his trumpet for military funerals. He is survived by his wife, Judee; four daughters, Denise (Randy) Schlea, Gibsonsburg, Ohio, Peggy (Brent) Musser, Bryan, Ohio, Delina Suber, Deshler, Kathy Suber, Deshler; three sons, John Suber, Deshler, Jim (Ladina) Suber, Deshler, Carl (Kristen Fortenberry) Engelhart, Norfolk, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Cole Gerdeman, Robert Suber II, Mitchell Gerdeman, Allyson Musser, Alex Suber, Tabitha Musser, Nicole Schlea, Eric Schlea and a brother, William (Paula) Suber, Deshler. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leo Suber. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Deshler United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mary Bushong and Pastor James Creager officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Deshler where graveside military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard and the Deshler American Legion Post #316. A dinner will follow the interment in the church basement. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be given to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation or the Deshler United Methodist Church. A special invitation is given to everyone to enjoy a celebration of fireworks in memory of Bob at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at his home in Deshler. Online condolences can be made at
