Clyde Nance “Jeff” Suber, 86, passed away on January 9, 2026, at Springfield Place in Newberry.
Born on November 26, 1939, in Newberry, he was the son of the late John Nance & Sara Longshore Suber. He grew up on Oakland Mill Hill and was a 1959 graduate of Newberry High School. He retired after 39 years at GE/Mepco/Phillips North American in Irmo.
As a teenager, Clyde worked at the Dixie Home Store in downtown Newberry, which later became known as Winn Dixie. The money he earned went toward the purchase of a Cushman motor scooter like his other buddies had that grew up on the mill hill. Together they would ride all over Newberry, and on occasion would venture out to the traffic circle, near Batesburg, where they would ride round & round the circle.
Growing up, Clyde, his dad John Nance, & his brother Coyt were avid hunters & fishermen. They always had bird dogs & rabbit dogs. The 3 of them used to fish the waters of Lake Murray in the 50’s, wading around the edge of the lake fly fishing for bass. Later on, they had a wooden boat built to fish the lake. Into his later years, Clyde hunted and fished as often as possible. He especially enjoyed taking his youngest grandson Mason fishing and teaching him all of his tricks for the best catch.
Clyde is survived by his son Steve (Michelle) suber, daughter Karen Suber, step-daughter Judy Chapman; step-son James Chapman; 3 grandchildren Hilary Berrier, Dean Suber & Mason Suber; 2 step-grandchildren Stacey Chapman Williams & Jamie Chapman; 3 great grandchildren & 3 step great grandchildren; sister-in-law Lugenia Martin Suber, nephew Johnny (Jennifer) Suber, and 2 great nephews Dylan (Madison) & Easton Suber.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother John Coyt Suber, and his wife of 35 years, Suda Mae Chapman Suber.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dave Tholstrup. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Suber, Dylan Suber, Easton Suber, Dean Suber, Mason Suber & Jim Kibler.
The family would like to thank Prisma Health Parkridge, ICU doctors & staff, Prisma Hospice staff, J.F. Hawkins nursing staff & administration, as well as Dr. Bernardo and his hospice staff.
