Pastor Robert P. WORMELY Sr. obituary

Robert WORMELY Obituary

WORMELY Pastor Robert P., Sr. Pastor Robert P. Wormely Sr., 76, passed away peacefully in his home, Tuesday, March 23, 2010. He was born November 24, 1933, in Brown, AL to the union of Nelson and Classie Wormely who preceded him in death as well as his brothers, D.L. Smith, Orange Wormely, and sisters, Elgie Harve and Willie Mae Clark. In 1951, he caught a bus to Toledo, OH, with 50 cents, a hand full of peanuts and not very many clothes, just enough to fit inside a match box. Two years later he joined the Army and served his country until 1955 when he was honorably discharged. He returned to Toledo, finding employment at Martin Box Factory, Construction at Arlands Shopping Center, Lucas Steel, Sears & Roebuck and L.O.F. where he worked 26 years retiring in 1992. He married Edna Nolen Wormely, his life partner, for 54 wonderful years. He loved and respected her and they were seldom apart. They shared many things and their mutual devotion to each other, was well known. They raised four children and later the family grew to include seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. December of 1983, he was called to pastor Southern Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained until his passing. The church accomplished many things with his strong and steady leadership. They completed an expansion, burned the mortgage and erected a multipurpose complex. The complex was later named Robert P. Wormely Multi-Purpose Complex. In the coming years, he ordained and licensed many new ministers. Most recently with a 2008 Resolution from City Council of The City of Toledo, True Street was renamed Robert P. Wormely Way. Pastor Wormely led by example. He never asked more of you then he would do. He had a special way of connecting with people, in a personal way. Over the years, he shared his wisdom, support and friendship to all who needed him. He also guided you back to the proper course if or when you strayed away. The strength of his character, his devotion to wife and family, his love of God and commitment to his church will always be admired and remembered. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Edna R. (Nolen) Wormely, sons Alonzo (Flonita), Robert Jr. of California, daughters Yolanda (Ronald) Peterson and Felicia Y. (Timothy) Pettaway, grandchildren; Morgannia (Marcus) Dawson, Ronnell, Markiesha, Alonzo Jr., Shalonda, Alicia and Rashawn, great grand Children, Ronnell II, Montrell, Malikh, Kailah, Brayden and Kamille. Brothers; Nelson Wormely of California, Jessie (Janie) Feggins and Walter (Dorothy) Readus, both of Alabama, Sisters; Johnnie Feggins of Toledo, Oscie Coleman and Betty Covington both of Alabama, Aunts; Bessie (James) Taylor, Osie Snipes of Toledo, Ocola (Willie) Johnson of Cleveland, OH, the Southern Missionary Baptist Church Family, along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends Visitation will be Sunday 3 - 6 p.m. followed by wake services 6 - 8 p.m. funeral services Monday 11:00 a.m. all from the Southern Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Rev Wormely has been my spiritual leader for 22yrs! He has been a father, a teacher and a preacher! He baptized my children and Ministered to my husband and I! I will always remember the words he told me, "Hold on, you know what you got, you don't know what you gonna get!" I have been hanging in there for 22yrs! Thank you Rev Wormely for following God, while we follow you! You will be truly missed. We love you, but God loved you more! A job well done! Continue to watch over us as we go through a difficult time of trying to find a Spiritual Leader, to lead us into a NEW VISION. We pray that this person follows God as He leads us to Higher Heights! We pray for Grace and Mercy.
Love and miss you dearly

Sis. Wormely and family,
In behalf of our late parents, DC & Maggie Dotson, we express our deepest heartfelt sympathy. Pastor Wormely knew our parents before he was saved and they always spoke dearly of you both. There are so many wonderful memories of him, such as his liking of lemon ice-cream. Our family always called upon Pastor to eulogize the Pettaway family, he never turned us away.
We will never forget Pastor Wormely.
Humbly Submitted,

Sister Edna Wormely & Family

Dear Sister Wormely;
It was such a long and courages battle, and I don't know anyone who showed more faith, grit and determination that Pastor Wormely or the support and courage on your part. My family and I had tremendous admiration and respect for Pastor Wormely as pastor, friend and confidante during our time of fellowship and ministry with the Sourthern Baptist Family.
It is comfort to you, I am sure, to have great support from family and friends, both far and near. And this is little I can say to provide any greater degree of comfort. But it might be of value to you and the family to know that in no small way the success of my ministry is attributable to the unction and guidance of the Holy Spirit and the teachings and mentoring fo Pastor Wormely as my Senior Pastor. I am a better and more committed minister, chaplain, and spiritual caregiver because of the love shown me by Pastor Wormely and all of you.
For these things I am thankful and I feel that Pastor Wormely memory keeps him alive in many thoughts besides mine. I count my blessing for having known and worked with him as long as I did.

Sincerely yours in Christ;

Reverend Wormely

I was only 5 years old when myself and my family joined Southern Missionary Baptist Church and a member up until the age of 17. During that time I must say I grew spiritually through your ministries and really admired all that you had done with the church. I remember the burning of the mortgage ceremony and thought that to be such a great accomplishment. I will always cherish the memories of Southern Baptist and I still can hear you singing your favorite song, "God Specializes". You preached my grandparents Eulogies and had been a significant part of all of our spiritual journies. May you rest in heaven and may your family find peace and joy in your legacy.

Sincerely,
