1941-2025
Deputy Chief Ronald R. Jackson Sr., a pioneer in Toledo law enforcement and a dedicated community leader, passed away on November 9th, 2025. A lifelong resident of Toledo, Deputy Chief Jackson was a trailblazer in Toledo law enforcement and a dedicated community leader. Mr. Jackson made history as the first African American to serve as Deputy Chief of Police in the city. He was a leader in community relations, working to strengthen bonds between residents and law enforcement. He is an alumnus of the University of Toledo, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education. He graduated from Scott High School, where he helped lead the basketball team to a championship in 1960. An avid and skilled golfer, Mr. Jackson was known for his competitive spirit on the course and often outplayed his partners. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Francis Jackson Brown Parks; father, William Pheemster; brother, James Jackson; sister, Patricia Brown. Left to cherish his memory, beloved wife of sixty-three years, Betty R. Jackson; sister, Beverly Cumberland; children, Ronald R. Jackson Jr., Craig Bradley (Teressa), Michael Dalton, Sonya Jackson, and Tonya Jackson.
Visitation: House of Day Funeral Home, 2550 Nebraska Ave, Toledo, OH 43607, Friday, November 14th, 2025, 4 p.m. -6 p.m.
Celebration of Life: Friendship Baptist Church, 5301 Nebraska Ave, Toledo, OH 43615, Saturday, November 15th, 2025. Wake: 10 a.m. Services: 11 a.m.

My sincere condolences to his wife and entire family. Ron was a great colleague who helped me make progress within the police department for minority and women hirings and promotions during my years under former Mayor Doug Degood, City Manager Michael J. Porter, and our Safety Director. Ron helped to move mountains. RIP, from a joint work colleague.
