Ronald Robertson Obituary

ROBERTSON Ronald J. Ronald J. Robertson, age 71, died at home on Monday, February 26, 2007, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Chisholm, MN to Wayne and Mildred (Casey) Robertson on August 27, 1935. Having grown up in Minnesota, he maintained his loyalty to the Vikings throughout his lifetime. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, he moved to Toledo where he worked at various jobs, including Dura, Chase Bag and the U.S. Post Office. In 1961, he joined the Toledo Fire Department. He worked out of several stations, as well as the alarm office, achieved the rank of lieutenant, and retired in 1989. He was also a member of American Legion Post #576. Following his retirement, Ron was able to pursue his long standing hobby, golf, highlighted with an annual, month long Florida golf trip. He worked for many years as a marshall for the scheduled outings at Whiteford Valley Golf Course, where he was a member for over 20 years. It was at Whiteford Valley where he met and cultivated many close friendships, in addition to those carried over from his years as a firefighter, and many other "old" and dear friends. Ron will long be remembered for his diligent keeping of his journal, recording daily activities and events for the past 15 years. In doing this, he has been a source of reference to many of us. Words cannot express how much the calls, visits, flowers, and cards from all his many friends helped he and his family throughout his long illness. Preceding Ron in death were his parents; his daughter, Roxanne; and his sister, Roberta Brinkman. He leaves behind to mourn his absence, his "bride" of 30 years, Marge; daughter, Julie (Denis) Bembenek; son, Richard (Tamara) Robertson; step children, Diane, Pat and Tim McCarthy; grandchildren, Kristie Whetsel, Michael, Brian and Matthew Bembenek; Rayce, Riley and Jenna Robertson, Kayla and Kimberly McCarthy, and Lindsay Labiak. Visitation will be at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Avenue, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with the Fire Department Last Alarm at 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home where friends are invited to gather after 10:00 a.m. Contributions in Ron's memory may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Online condolences may be sent to www.ansberg-west.com

I will remember Ron when I look out my kitchen window watching him as he left to play golf in the morning knowing how much he loved the game. I will also remember eating popcorn and drinking Marge's special honey tea with them not long ago. I'm sorry I will not be able to be there for his funeral, but my prayers are with you.

Marge,

Sorry to here of Ron's passing. He fought the good fight. Reminiscing about the old days at Whiteford and the Atwood trips always includes stories about Ron and his quick wit, as well as his strong determination to succeed and push his partners to do the same. It was always a pleasure to play with "Ronnie Rob".

Dear Ron Robertson family,

I am Roger Sproule an old friend of Ron's from back in the mid 1980's. Ron was more than a very special person in my life he was my "hero". I am deeply saddened for your loss of Ron.

I played many rounds of Golf with him and went on several trips with him and Dale Pittman. John Meyers was my Neighbor and best friend at the time in Oregon Ohio and we played every Saturday Morning with Ron and the Gang. Of course I was the youngest and always hoped no matter what when they drew names that I would be on Ron's team because if we were together we were tuff to beat and we would take the money home. He always kept everyone in check as well so things were fair and I always agreed with his opinion because he was always right and fair when it came to golf.

I remember on those trip he say kid the "bride" left me a little love note in his suitcase and then he would get a big smile on his face. You could really tell he loved his "bride".

Dale and him often shared a room on the trips and I would go to sit with them after dinner in the evening in their room and talk about the days events and replay all of our great golf shots. These trips were some of the very best times in my life. I am now 45 years old and live back home here in Freeport IL and do not play golf like I use to because it was never the same for me as playing with the guys in OHIO at Whiteford on Saturday mornings.

I am currently battling stage 4 rectum cancer that went to my liver and my liver is covered with tumors but I am a fighter and after 4 Chemo treatments my tumors were reduced by 62% and I now have had 8 Chemo sessions and my next CAT Scan on March 13th and then Surgery during April followed by 4 to 6 more months of Chemo.

For the LOVE of the Game!!!!!!!!!! God Bless Ron and his family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE AND PRAYERS,
Roger Sproule

Marge Marlene and Marijo came Wed and brought me the news of Ron's death. The only comfort I found when Bob died was knowing that he really is in a better place and in Jesus's arms. I try to picture him that way and it makes it all bearable. I hope you too will find comfort in knowing that Ron is up there with our wonderful Lord. I hope you can feel my love and hugs from across the miles and also my daily prayers. Having shared in Ron's and your life is one of my many blessings. God be with you and comfort you and the rest of the family, Marge. Love Nancy

As

I read this obituary in San Diego via the internet is is hard to believe

we have lost such a wonderul friend and man who has been so fond of life,

God, family, friends and of course Golf! He will be greatly missed by us

all . Knowing Ron and his bride Marge over 30 years ago I was privileged

to be in their wedding along with Rons best friend Gus. We have been there

for each other with laughter tears and the ups & downs of life. It is

with deep sadness that I cannot be there to hear his most fitting eulogy

so deserving. He fought a long battle with his disease courageously . May

he be at peace. My prayers and thoughts go to the entire family; his Bride
and my dear friend ,children, and grandchildren.
May God Bless you
all

Dearest friend, Marge:
It is so tough to say goodbye to such a wonderful friend. From the days growing up in Chisholm to the reciprocal visits we had with you we have many wonderful memories to remember him, and you. We will miss him very much. FRIENDS ARE FOREVER, and our friendship with you two has lasted for a long time and of course will continue as long as we three are standing. We will never forget the good times we had and especially during our retirement years. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, Marge, and have been throughout Ron's illness. May God Bless you and your family and may all the memories help you through these tough times. Jim & Lois

Marge; You and your family have my deepest sympathy. Ron and I worked together for the last 4 years at the golf course and he always had a pleasant greeting. He was truly a fine gentleman. You also may remember me as my wife Linda took treatments on some of the same days as Ron at the Oncology center. Linda passed away 11/11/07 from liver cancer that had started in her pancreas. She always would say what a nice couple you were and admired your needlework. Ron has been in my prayers and now I pray that you and your family can find strength through your family and friends to get through this most difficult time.

With deepest sympathy, Ron will truely be missed but his memory will remain as a fine gentleman
and close friend. We worked together and played many years
at Whiteford and we will never forget his infectious smile, gentle attitude and fighting spirit through his last months.
May he be at peace and our prayers
be with his family.
