Ronald Smith Obituary

Ronald F. Smith

June 3, 1939 - November 14, 2023

Ronald F. Smith, 84, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away November 14th at Hospice of Northwest Ohio of complications from a stroke in June. Ron was born June 3, 1939, in Toledo, to parents William Smith and Evelyn (Poley) Smith. Sylvania was where he enjoyed his youth, graduating from Burnham High School in 1956.

He earned a degree in elementary education from BGSU and taught fourth and sixth grades at Dorr Street Elementary until his retirement. In retirement, he served as zoning inspector for Richfield Township.

Ron's special joy came from raising field trial dogs and the resulting close friendships, spending time with grandson, Logan, and spoiling his nieces and nephews with numerous Dollar Store purchases.

Left to cherish his memory are bonus son, Mike (Lynn) Gorey; siblings, John (Shielah) Smith, Bill (Darlene) Smith, LouAnn (George) Managhan, Denise (Steve) Fowler; devoted friend, Joe Ott; former spouse, Renee Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Following his wish for no services, we hope for those who knew and loved him to remember the special place he held in your lives.

My only fond memory of school was forth grade where Mr Smith made everything fun. I seen him a couple years ago where he had a tear in his eye when we took a picture. Unbelievable how he remembered me. What a GREAT man! You are definitely missed by lots.

I am just hearing of Mr. Smith´s passing. I think we were his first 4th class at Dorr st. He was still engaged. Wow was he fun, engaging and so cool. My brother had and so did my oldest son. He was truly one of a kind. He will be missed but he will always a part my childhood. RIP Mr. Smith!

I was one of the lucky ones to have Mr. Smith as a fourth grade teacher and then again in 6th grade. He was the only teacher that could effectively teach and have fun while doing it. Everyone in the class wanted to learn, and did learned, because he made it easy. And if we didn't get it the first time, he changed the way he taught it so that we did get it. He definitely was my #1 teacher. It's been 50+ years since I was in his class and I remember him like it was yesterday. Great smile, wonderful demeanor, caring, fun. Thank you for giving me such great memories and helping form me! RIP Mr. Smith and my sincere condolences to his family on his loss.

I was in the 6th grade when I met Mr. Smith at Dorr Elementary. He was my first teacher crush as a 6th grader because he was always so sweet and caring about all of his students and his smile was so contagious! I will definitely never forget Mr. Smith as he was so kind and helpful to a little girl who talked way too much in his class but he never got mad!! Praying for his family and friends Thank you to his family for sharing him with all of us Students.

Ron was one of a kind. I had worked with Ron at the township, between his great stories and jokes he kept us laughing all the time. He always came in with snacks for all of us as well. We became good friends, a friendship I will always cherish. Rest in peace Ron, you will be missed by so many. We will cherish the memories forever. Condolences to Mike, Lynn and family. Hugs to you all.
