Roy Elsea Obituary

Roy William Elsea

Roy William Elsea, age 62, died of cancer on February 17, 2017, in Toledo, Ohio.

Roy is survived by his children, Carly Lemire (Shawn), Aaron Elsea (Rosanna) and Conor Elsea. Also surviving are his sister, Judy Branscome Schneider; and brothers, Sam and Bill Moore. He was preceded in death by his companion, Mary Jannucci; and his sister, Carolyn Mills Rutkowski. He will be missed by his six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Roy was born on November 21,1954 in Toledo, Ohio, to LeRoy Elsea and Mary Mills Branscome Elsea. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1988 with an Associate's degree in Law Enforcement Technology. He was in the first class to graduate from the Owens College Police Academy. In 1989, he moved to Elmore, Ohio, and accepted a position as a police officer with the Village of Elmore Police Department. He worked there for 17 years and held the rank of Detective Sergeant when he left the force.

Roy was an outspoken man who believed in treating people with respect and fairness. He loved music and was an active musician his entire life. He particularly enjoyed teaching people about new music and instruments, watching them enjoy themselves listening to music and introducing youths to rock and roll. Roy was a voracious reader of history, politics, current events and fiction.

There was only one. And many would say he was an individual who lived as he aspired to live. He cherished the people around him and friends could always count on his sharp wit and compassionate smile. Few care the way he cared and believed the way he believed. The depth of his commitment to others is not only rare but commendable. I will miss my old friend. I say that with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye. I express my deepest sympathy to the family and to those who's lives he touched in his own way. Carpe Diem.
