Ruby Jewel (Harp) Anderson, age 90, formerly of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away April 13, 2023, in Joliet, IL, following a brief illness. Ruby was born October 26,1932, in Cookeville, TN, to the late Willie Clayton Harp and the late Verna (Whitaker) Harp. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and was proud of her numerous competitive dance awards. After a long career, she retired from the Washington Local Schools administrative office and most recently lived at the Kingston Residence of Sylvania before moving to Illinois in 2022 to be with the family of her daughter, Vivian.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, the late Dow Edmon Anderson; her parents; four brothers, Thurmond Harp, David Harp, Paul Harp and Raymond Harp; and two sisters, Ann Smith and Fannie Weilenman.

She is survived by a son, Randy (Maureen) of Maumee, OH; and two daughters, Denise Newman (David) of Monroe, GA and Vivian Thompson (Michael) of Plainfield, IL; along with seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to convey their appreciation to the staff at Kingston Residence of Sylvania and Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care Facility where she received excellent care.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, April 20, 2023, between 12:30 and 1:30 pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH. A private Interment for family will follow the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care Facility in Joliet, IL.
