Russell Franklin Hitts, born April 2, 1947, in Toledo Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at the age of 77 years. He was a graduate of Whitmer High School and the University of Toledo. He worked 31 years as a civil engineer for the City of Toledo Water Department, before retiring in 2003. Russ, also known as "Butch" to many, was a man strongly rooted in his Catholic faith and was extremely dedicated to his family. He spent his adult life creating memories and experiences with them all. He was never one to sit still. He loved camping, and was an avid fisherman and hunter his whole life. He loved music, concerts, and dancing. He loved cars-racing and working on them. He was proud to have skydived in his sixties, and played volleyball well into his seventies. He is survived by his wife Anne Marie; children Heather (Robert) Grimmett, Jeffrey (Dawn) Hitts, Jennifer (David) Bukowski, Steven (Heather) Hitts, and Melanie (Tom Bonomi) Hitts; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters Patricia Zook and Pamela (Jerry) DeCastro. He was preceeded in death by his dear wife Anita; his father Virgil; step mother Jodie Hitts; and his mother Val Hitts.

Visitation will be Tuesday July 16, from 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd, Toledo. Funeral services will begin Wednesday July 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Coyle, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo, 1842 Airport Hwy, Toledo. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Parkinson's Foundation of Northwest Ohio.
