Scott Thomas Durand, 47, of the Point Place/Shoreland Community, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 18, 2014, at his home. He was born August 19, 1967, in Toledo to Thomas J. and Eileen (Weiss) Durand.

Surviving are his mother, Eileen; two sons, David and Steven Durand; two sisters, Laura (Philip) Majewski and Lynn (Matthew) Mattox; brother, Jonathan Durand; seven nieces and nephews; as well as three great-nieces and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his father.

Scott was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Toledo, where he attended school from kindergarten through middle school. He was a 1985 Woodward High School graduate then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years, for which we are a grateful nation. He was currently working for Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo as a Stationary Engineer/Boiler Operator, and previously for Toledo Edison, Detroit Edison, Poet BIO Refinery in Fostoria, Sun Oil and Perstorp. my dear godmother Eileen, Lori, Lynn, Jonathan, and David and Steven, I am sharing in your grief over the loss of your son, father and brother and my God brother Scott. Scott and I were born a few days apart across the street from each other. our families were very close. We have pictures of us with Santa together but I don't remember that. I remember him living next to Ottawa river school and him playing and fighting and looking out for me just like his sister. He called me his "God sister", people said there was no such thing but we were pretty sure there was.I remember playing at the school and I peed my pants and the kids were laughing at me. Scottie, in love, yelled at them "No she didn't and don't you say that again!!" He pretty much convinced me I didn't! Eileen wasn't though, so she sent me home to change. The Lord led us back together though Troy after high school. Scott was my brother away from home when we were living in Illinois and again in Virginia and again in Toledo. Scott was the kind of person who would lay down he life for his family ,friends and country. Then years would go by before we would see each other again here in Toledo. No mater where we ran into each other or who we were with he ALWAYS stopped and gave me a big hug and ALWAYS introduced me as his God sister even since the last time I saw him. We loved each other. Like the saying goes...close friends are like peeing your pants...everyone can see it but only you can feel the warmth it brings. (he would laugh at that one and even if you didn't think it was funny you would laugh too because of his contagious laugh) That is my bond with Scottie. He WAS my God brother on earth, and there is such thing, and he will be my God brother in heaven! I am lifting his entire family up in prayers, praying that you will all experience GOD'S SOVEREIGN LOVE along with the love poured out to you by friends at this difficult time. With all my love and with a heavy heart,Scott's God sister, Audrey
