Shirley Cable Obituary

Shirley R. Cable

October 5, 1928 - August 31, 2025

Shirley R. Cable, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025. She was born in Cairo, Illinois, to Raymond Leonard Reed and Susan Inez Snyder Reed. Raised during the challenges of the Depression, she moved with her family throughout southern Illinois and Missouri before moving briefly to Tampa, FL, where she graduated high school in 1946.

In 1954, she married Tommy Long. They lived in Missouri, Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Shirley eventually returned to Illinois and later married Tom Cable. Never having children of her own she was blessed with two step-daughters, and her greatest joy in life was her growing family.

She worked in many roles throughout her life, including in the gift shop at Swan Creek, where she shared her warm smile and friendly spirit with all who visited. Creative and talented, she made jewelry, painted china, and enjoyed playing games with family and friends. An avid golfer, she achieved the rare honor of two holes-in-one during her time on the course.

She was also deeply religious and lived her faith every day, offering kindness and compassion to all she met. Her faith guided her through life and gave her strength during challenging times.

She will be remembered for her resilience, creativity, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and joyful memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Cable; her sister, Evelyn; and her niece, Mary. She is survived by her daughters, Nanci (Bruce) Poling, and Ann (Robert) Jeriha; grandchildren, Christopher Poling, Devereaux Poling (Chris Robinson), Monica Jeriha (Jim Brett), and Deanne Jeriha; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 nephews.

Services will be private. Coyle Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
