Norman Estes Obituary

NORMAN R. ESTES Retired Assistant Chief Alameda Fire Dept. Resident of Angels Camp Passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from natural causes in Stockton, California. Born Nov. 2, 1921, in Alameda, California, Mr. Estes grew up in the Fruitvale district of East Oakland and graduated from Fremont High School in 1939. After graduation he joined the Naval Reserve and was called to active duty in 1940. He served aboard the troop transport ship William P. Biddle throughout World War II in the European and Pacific Campaigns. Before retiring from active duty as Ship Fitter Chief in 1945, he married Anne Louise Little of Hannibal, Missouri. He joined the Alameda Fire Department in 1949 and, except for being called back to active duty in 1951 for the Korean War, served 25 years with the Alameda Fire Department. He worked his way through the ranks, attaining the position of Assistant Chief in 1970. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Elks Club, and supported the Boy Scouts and local sports activities. Mr. and Mrs. Estes moved to Arnold, CA in 1976 where he was active in SIRS, volunteered for Calaveras Big Trees State Park and local community groups. He is preceded in passing by his wife Anne, and is survived by sons Stephen and Craig and grandchildren Melissa and Stevie. He was 84 years young. A memorial service will be held for Mr. estes at the Elks Club Lodge 1015, in Alameda, Monday, August 21st, at 11am. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Alameda Firefighters Local 689 Donation Fund, 635 Pacific Ave., Alameda, CA 94501.

We are very sorry to hear about you father passing. He was a good man and well like,Remember that he will always being looking down with pride in his eyes. When your family lived in Woodstock Homes he was part of the community That was very specical when we where younger, a special time.
