Stephen Albert "Reno" Esper, age 73, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. With his laid-back, easy-going nature and positive attitude, you'd never know he had been battling cancer the last four years. He was born January 29, 1952, in Toledo, OH, to Gabriel and Ruth (Saunders) Esper. Stephen was a 1971 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. He worked for the Jeep Corporation for 31 years at both the original plant on Jeep Parkway, and the new Jeep Plant on Stickney Ave., retiring in 2008. He also worked for the George Snyder Coffee Co./Kornowa Foods, and Sofo Foods. Stephen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He loved being outdoors enjoying his home and family. He enjoyed doing yardwork and tending to the pool and his two favorite summer spots were sitting on the front porch and in the pool with his grandkids. He loved watching the news and staying up to date on the latest headlines and he loved his classic country music. Stephen had many years of spending holidays and weekends at the family cottage on Harsens Island in St. Clair County, MI. He enjoyed many vacations and cruises with friends and family along with casino trips, and Lions and Tigers games.

Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Nancy (Grant) Esper (married September 16, 1977); daughter, Tammy (Dan) Collins; grandchildren, Jase and Alexa Collins; sister, Rita (George) Abi Zeid; sister-in-law, Kathleen Esper; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jamie, Edward, Charles, John, Lawrence, and Martin Esper.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 9, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Deacon James Dudley presiding. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
