Steven Hamel, age 63. Beloved husband of 32 years to Heidi (nee Hans). Loving father of Jack Hamel. Cherished brother of Laurie Berndt (Mark), Gregory Hamel (Barb), James Hamel (Carol), and Julie Hartford (Jim). Dear uncle of 12 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and great-nephews. Dearest friend of many.
Steve was always known for his infectious sense of humor and his quick wit. Apart from his career as an Air Traffic Controller, he was a devoted and proud father and husband. Steve loved the Fall season where he could attend and watch Michigan football games and was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan. There was never any doubt how much Steve loved his family, and how much his family loved him. He will be sadly missed by many but happily remembered by more. Go Blue!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Steve's memory to the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson's, [email protected].
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m., in the Gathering Center, the building located behind the funeral home. A religious ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m., following the Celebration of Life. Arrangements entrusted to the A. Ripepi and Sons Funeral Home, 18149 Bagley Road, Middleburg Hts. (West of I-71).

My sincere condolences to the entire Hamel family!
Steve was one of a kind! I´ve met some hysterical people in my lifetime but Steve was the king of comedy! He could make humor out of anything! I have so many stories that I could share.
One that sticks out was in sixth grade the school brought in a police officer to talk to the kids. After lecturing the class for about a half hour on what it´s like to be a police officer he asked the class if they had any questions. Of course Steve threw his hand up and asked..."why don't police officers wear tennis shoes?" The officer then explained the shoes they wore just fit their uniform more appropriately. Well Steve asked "what happens if you get in to a foot chase?" they went back in forth for about 2 minutes before the teacher finally had to shut Steve down.
Just was so ahead of his time in intellect!
He really cared so much for his family and friends!! He will be greatly missed!

Steve was a wealth of knowledge on various subjects!! He took on Parkinson's with vigor, a can-do attitude and logical approach and I admire him for his reaction to life his life to the fullest.
Steve was so generous with his talents and resources.
I am proud to call him a friend, I will miss you!!
