Suzanne Chism Obituary
September 9, 1937 - July 5, 2022
Suzanne Mary Chism, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 5, 2022, at the age of 84. She was born on September 9, 1937, to Edward and Magdalen (Geisler) Haupricht, who preceded her in death, along with her loving and devoted husband, Pete Chism.
Growing up on a farm on Hill Avenue in then Adams Township, Sue was valedictorian of her class at Maumee High School. After graduation, she began her secretarial career at Owens-Illinois, working her way up to Executive Secretary before retiring in the 1980s. After leaving O-I, Sue served as Office Manager of Christ the King Catholic Parish in Toledo for many years before her second retirement.
"Susie" enjoyed a colorful life with many friends, former co-workers, and acquaintances. She was a generous spirit and a joy to those who knew her. She enjoyed watching baseball games, going to art fairs, "retail therapy," and having a beautiful rose garden. Her circle of friends extended to neighbors in Palm Harbor, Florida, where she owned a winter home for several years. Most recently, Sue lived at Kingston Residence of Sylvania where she was well cared for by their staff, Christian Home Care, and Ohio Living Hospice.
Although Sue had no living immediate family, she will be greatly missed by many close friends who thought of her as family, especially Brian Smith. She will be remembered as kind, loving, and giving.
Visitation for Sue will be held at Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 South Reynolds Road, Toledo, Ohio, on Friday, July 8, 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also take place at Christ the King Catholic Parish, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, July 9, at 9:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 10:30 a.m. The Mass will be live-streamed at cktoledo.org. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery will follow a luncheon.
