Terese "Terry" Carey

Terese M. "Terry" (Anderson) Carey, of Maumee, Ohio, passed on October 9, 2025, after a long illness. Terry was born in Toledo, Ohio, on August 14, 1951, to Donald and Jeraldine (Jacob) Anderson.

She attended Rosary Cathedral and St. Ursula Academy, where she found her abiding faith and many lifelong friends, especially her lady friends. She was also a long-time active parishioner at Gesu, St. Joan of Arc, and Corpus Christi parishes.

An avid reader, she enjoyed her ladies' book club. She also enjoyed knitting many baby blankets for her own grandchildren and for the grandchildren of many of her friends. She loved her flower beds and pots, and cooking and baking, particularly various delicious Christmas cookies.

Her commitment to making the world a better place included membership in the League of Women Voters, the Junior League of Toledo and advocacy work for the American Cancer Society, working on school health matters and Smoke Free Toledo and Ohio ballot issues.

Terry's most cherished role was being a mom, with enough love for not only her own children, but for anyone in need of a mom's love.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Michael; and sister, Diane Wright. Terry is survived by her three children, Jeremy Carey; Liz Carey, Los Angeles, CA; Patrick (Meghan), of Clarendon Hills, Il; sister, Christine Anderson (Dan Smith); brother, Andrew (Rene); Kayla (Jason) Doherty, North Port, FL; grandchildren, Waylon, Quinn and Chloe; and husband, Michael Vanderhorst.

Friends will be received at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, Ohio 43623, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2025. A short prayer service to follow at 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Rd, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, or to a charity of your choice.
