Thomas Sabin Obituary
Thomas D. Sabin, 83, of Sylvania, OH, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021, after a six year battle with cancer.
Thomas (Tom) is survived by his children, Peggy Toedter (Bill), Susan Goulet, Jeffrey Sabin (Ami); six grandchildren, Sara Svenby, Bryan Cockerill, Leslie Crandall, Stephanie Davis, Ashley Sabin, and Kaitlyn Sabin; seven great- grandchildren; sister, Judy Nemire; brothers, Kenneth Sabin, Chester Sabin (Reggie), James Sabin (Pat), Robert Sabin; and step sister, Janice Mientkiewicz (Lenny). Thomas was preceded in death by his father, Chester Sabin; mother and step father, Florence and Ralph Kachenmeister; sister, Carol Ritenour; two step brothers; and two step sisters.
Tom attended Waite High School (Class of 1956). He was a 1st team all city quarterback (#34) for the Indians. He was a draftsman out of high school, a boilermaker (Local #85) by trade and a "boat hauler" by choice. He was a Point Place staple for 50+ years before relocating to South Carolina & Florida for approximately 25 years. Ultimately Tom would not be able stay away and returned to Sylvania during his remaining years. Tom was always willing to help a friend, neighbor, or someone he didn't even know at the drop of a hat no matter where he called home. Tom embraced working hard and playing harder! He was a member of Ottawa River Yacht Club where boating and socializing were his passions. He spent many days attempting to convince anyone and everyone to go for a "quick boat ride". Everyone was always welcome on the boat but he always said that there is "no guarantee when we are coming back". Tom also delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years where he loved chatting with each and every individual he met.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 30th, at 1:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4703 Summit St., Toledo, OH. Celebration of life to follow at the Ottawa River Yacht Club, 5488 Edgewater Dr., Toledo, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

So sorry to hear of your loss. George and Tom grew up together. I was his sisters age. There were others. My Mother and his were good friends. We knew his Father and his Step-father Ralph. Again so sorry for your loss, and ours.

I worked with Tom as a Boilermaker and always enjoyed it. Tom was a pleasant man to be around. He never had a bad word for anyone. Our prayers go out to him and his family during this time of celebration.
