Thomas Steinwand Obituary

STEINWAND

Thomas W.

Thomas W. Steinwand (T-bird) 83, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2014, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born on March 19, 1931, to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Strubble) Steinwand. He was a graduate of Libbey High School, class of 1949. Thomas served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War until 1953 with the rank of Staff Sgt. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Switzer, while on military leave in 1951. Thomas worked as a driver for Great Lakes Distributing. He then started his own business and retired in 2012.

Tom found many joys in life, but the biggest was time spent with his family at the cottage in Coldwater Michigan. He was an avid outdoorsman, spent time at home in the woods and loved fishing, camping and hunting with his son Jim. Thomas enjoyed helping others complete projects and was a self-made handyman. He would tinker, take apart and fix anything he set his mind to. He loved to cook for the family, and enjoyed the holiday gatherings. Thomas had a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers which lead him to be the head coach in the Stars Football League for several years. Thomas loved the Lord and was an active member of Calvary Assembly of God and served in the greeting ministry for several years.

Thomas was survived by his loving wife, Janet; his son, James (Karen) Steinwand; daughters, Kimberly (David) Myers and Chris (Frederick) Peters; grandchildren, Nathan (Amanda) Myers, Nicholas (Jessica) Myers, Brittany (Daniel) Behrens and Andrew Steinwand, Megan (Matthew) Clair, Mia Peters, and seven great-grandchildren; as well as sister, Eleanor Gaylord, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, James Steinwand.

A special thank you to the staff at Heartland of Waterville and the medical director Dr. Kris Brickman for their compassionate care. A special thank you to the staff at UTMC for their continual care and support through the years.

Friends may call on Sunday, November 16, 2014, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at The Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1360 Conant St., Maumee, OH 43537.
