Virginia Kowalka Obituary

KOWALKA
Virginia Mae

Virginia Mae Kowalka, age 90, passed away on April 4, after a short illness. Virginia, or Ginny as her friends called her, was born December 14, 1925, in Wauseon, Ohio to Harold and Neva Haas. She grew up in Toledo with her three siblings, Charles Haas, Phyllis Ginther (both deceased) and Charlene Murphy, California. She lived in Rossford and Maumee, and spent the last year as a resident of The Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek in their assisted living residence.
Virginia worked as an LPN at Riverside Hospital for over 20 years caring for many sick children. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Exercise and water aerobic classes at Wolf Creek YMCA kept her busy and healthy. Even in her late eighties she was seen working out daily.
Virginia was married to Warren R. Kowalka (deceased 1966) in 1948. She is survived by her three children, Katherine Schumaker (David) of North Canton, Ohio, Warren M. Kowalka (Diane) of Toledo and Patricia (John) Haywood of Findlay, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two expected great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have been made through Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday, April 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Walter Funeral Home on Friday, April 8, at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive visitors before the service between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia's name to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek.

Dear Patty.....My sympathy to you and your family.

Virginia was dearly loved by her family of faith here at Bethlehem, and as for me, though I knew her for only a brief time, found I was warmed and encouraged by her faith, good cheer and ability to see the world clearly.

I remember Mrs. Kowalka well, from the Cherry Lane/Eagle Point Rd neighborhood.
All of us kids had a GREAT time together. I remember playing in their pool with Kathy, Warren & Patty. And visiting with Mrs. Kowalka whenever I came over to play. RIP Mrs. Kowalka
