Virginia Slattery

Virginia (Ginny) Slattery, age 66, passed away in her home on August 21st in Toledo, OH surrounded by her loving family. Ginny was born on August 22nd, 1951 and raised in Mayfield Village, OH by Anthony and Rose Anne Straniero. She was a 1969 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Chardon, OH. She married James F. Slattery on April 5, 1974. She was the loving mother of David (Jaclyn), Andrew (Caitlin) and Colleen Slattery; grandmother of Oliver, Theodore, Quinn and Paige. She was the beloved sister of Linda (David), Anthony (Debbie), Amy, the late John (Deb) and Kathleen; beloved sister in law, aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Ginny was a graduate of the University of Dayton and worked as a special education teacher both in the Cleveland and Toledo public school systems for over 20 years. She earned her Master's degree from the University of Toledo and was pursuing her Doctorate degree at the time of her passing. She was a devout Christian and enjoyed walking in Wildwood Park, cooking homemade Italian meals, and spending time sharing laughter with her friends and family.

Ginny's warm personality touched the lives of all she encountered. Ginny will always be remembered for her kind spirit, infectious smile and caring nature.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Ginny's memory to The University of Toledo Foundation (utfoundation.org) directed to the Special Education Services Fund (2400469).

Friends and relatives are invited to gather for a visitation at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Saturday, August 25th from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Condolences may be shared with the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com
