PONTASCH

Dr. Walter A.

Dr. Walter A. Pontasch, 88, of Naples, FL, went to be with the Lord, early Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born in Bierbaum, Austria on August 8, 1924. He served in World War II then completed medical school in Gratz, Austria. He came to the United States to complete his internship in Pontiac, MI, where he met his wife, Dolores Anderson. They were married in February, 1954 and had 4 children. They moved to Toledo, Ohio, where he had a successful family practice. He had a deep compassion for people and often cared for them regardless of their ability to pay. He retired to Naples, FL, where he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his many friends. His wisdom, kindness and strong faith were an inspiration to many. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, and his children, Kurt Pontasch PhD, Erich Pontasch MD, Martin Pontasch MD and Elisabeth Pontasch Phillips MD; 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

My sincerest condolences to the Pontasch Family. Dr Pontasch was my doctor from the time I can remember, including delivering my children, and up until the time I relocated to the West Coast. He was the best, always compassionate and caring. My all the loving memories sustain his family through this time of sorrow.

To the entire Pontasch Family, My Father Dick Phillips and Walter were friends for year and I am very sad to hear of his passing but I know Dad was extremely happy to be with Walter again. All the stories and fantastic times they had with all their friends still makes me smile. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time.

Dolores, Liz and boys. We know how good and kind your husband and father was and know that he's now resting in the arms of Jesus. Time goes by, but we never forget you guys. Take comfort in knowing that you have "old" friends who love and care. God Bless you all.

Dear Family,
How fortunate you were to have such a model father. He treated my Mother and I years ago when his office was on Starr Av. and was so kind when I was a pregnant newly married wife with a husband drafted. He was so kind and gentle. Wishing him peaceful rest and all of you comfort.

What a nice man. I recall him in the yard, playing soccer with his kids. Please accept condolences on behalf of myself and our family from "down the street".

Dr. Pontasch was my childhood doctor in the 60's. What a wonderful and compassionate man. When reading his obituary it brought back memories of office visits as a child. While many children may have dreaded going to the doctor...we always looked forward to seeing Dr. Pontasch. Many times we would color pictures to take to him at our office visits. He will be missed.
