Wesley VanDyke Obituary
Wesley Samuel VanDyke went to be with our Lord on June 22, 2021, at the age of 100 well-lived years. Wes was born August 15, 1920, to Samuel and Augusta (Leiner) VanDyke in Toledo, Ohio, but spent most of his childhood on the family farm in Whiteford Center, Michigan. He graduated from Lambertville High School in 1938. He served in WWII from December 1941-July 1945, joining the United States Armed Air Force as a private and ending his service as a master sergeant with the 305th Bombardment Group. He spent most of those years stationed in England as a fighter plane mechanic. At the conclusion of WWII, he returned home and married Loretta Marie Koch on July 26, 1945. He was a farmer and also worked for many years at Champion Spark Plug in Toledo. Wes is survived by his loving wife of almost 76 years, Loretta; and his children, Alan (Alice) VanDyke and Mary Tobin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Leslie VanDyke, Cynthia (Jeff Tew) Sprague, Michael (Misty) VanDyke, Aaron Tobin and Jourdan Tobin; his four great-grandchildren, Shelby, Colt, Hailie and Savannah; his sister-in-law, Mary DeNell VanDyke; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his five siblings; and a daughter-in-law. A funeral service is scheduled on Saturday, June 26, 2021, 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 8307 Memorial Highway, Ottawa Lake, Michigan. Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio, and at Zion Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Ottawa Lake, Michigan, with military honors.

Loretta and the rest of the families: I am truly sorry to hear the loss of your Husband Wesley and I know he is in a very good place with our Father above. Remember God only takes the best. It is hard to go through a loss. I have been there many times myself. It is hard to say the words that I want to say but will keep him and all of you in my prayers. God Bless You ALL!
