William Shaffer Obituary

William "Bill" E. Shaffer, age 62, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005, in his home. He was born to Omar and Ruth Shaffer on January 11, 1943, in Assumption, OH. Bill attended Woodward High School. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Bill was a truck driver for GI Improvement and later worked as a district maintenance supervisor for National Amusements. He then went on to begin his own business, Seagate Construction, until he was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2004. Bill was a member of the North Toledo Arrow Club. He loved boating, fishing, and then having his family over for his Friday Fish Fry to eat his catch. Bill enjoyed golf, bowling, and the Yum Yum Restaurant on Summit St. The real love in his life was cooking for everyone and Michigan football. Bill had his own way of showing his love to people, but for those who cared about him, his love was endless.
Bill is survived by his sons, Jeff and Mark Shaffer; grandson, Joran William Shaffer; stepchildren, Steve (Tami) Gilmore, Lori (Jason) Burks, Matt (Stacy) Gilmore and Angie (Rusty) Belcher; sisters, Dorothy Rudnicki, Mary Pierce, Pat (Robert) Michalak, Melba Zirkel and Karen (Robert) Scanlon; brother, Jim (Leta) Shaffer; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, friends; significant other and best friend, Sharon Bishop. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Junior, Richard and Jerry, and stepsons, Greg and Jamie Gilmore.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, September 8, 2005, from 3-8 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) where a funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Gary Walters officiating.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Bill's nurses, Diane Braker, Mark Smith, and Lorae Barnes.

Well Papa our fun is over and the fun times we had our done.
When you died, my heart died too.
I am going to miss you so much and all the fun times, but I will cherish the memories forever.
Thank you so much for
everything you've done
for me and given me.
I know you're in a happier place and are in no more pain.
This year has been
so much pain for you.
I promise to be good and not to braid my hair and I'll be careful not to wear such short shirts.
