Margaret VanHise Obituary

Peg (Miller) Van Hise, formerly of Titusville, N.J., passed away on September 11, 2025 at her home in Pennswood Village in Newtown, PA, where she had lived for the past 12 years. She was 102.
Peg grew up in Pennington, NJ as one of nine children born to Bernice and O.A. Miller, whose family was actively involved in the Pennington United Methodist Church and graduated from Pennington Central High School and then Sargent College (Boston University), where she studied physical education.
She worked at the Princeton YWCA as a swimming/aquatics instructor while raising two boys and is said to have taught all her grandchildren to swim (in the neighbors' pool).
Peg was physically active nearly all her life, swimming regularly, playing tennis well into her eighties, leading canoe excursions on the Delaware, water skiing, snow skiing, and, with her husband, Morgan Van Hise, was a dependable fixture for many years in the Titusville Fourth of July parade on their bicycle-built-for-two. Early on, she organized and led village exercise classes, often in neighbors' driveways.
She was a member of the Titusville Presbyterian Church and counted as life-long friends her neighbors, tennis partners, and book club colleagues, who often met for "meetings" on her family's pontoon boat and floated down the river, ostensibly discussing the books they had recently read.
Predeceased by J. Morgan Van Hise (2017), her husband of 72 years, and her son, Thomas Arthur, who passed away in 2012 at his home in Hilton Head, SC, she is survived by her youngest sister, Patricia Crawford of Santa Barbara, CA, her son Timothy Morgan of Brookside, NJ, daughters-in-law Martha Van Hise of New York City and Leslie Claus Van Hise of Sheffield, MA, as well as her five grandchildren: Jonathan Morgan (Kristen) of Arlington, VA; Brian (Caitlin) of River Edge, NJ; Christine Margaret (Evan Tozer) of Philadelphia; Scott Thomas of New York City; and Andrew of Richmond, VA.
She was thrilled to have lived long enough to brag about her four great-grandchildren: Addison Margaret, Graham Morgan, Ruth Elizabeth, and Luke Thomas.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Titusville Presbyterian Church at 48 River Drive, Titusville, NJ.

Dear Tim and family,
Please accept our sincere sympathies in the passing of your mom. She was such a sweet lady and I always admired her vitality. The bicycle built for 2 will always be a fond memory for many people. Find comfort in the many memories.
Sincerely, Fred and Dotty (Kinter) Loesch
