Anthony Recine Obituary

Anthony "Tony" T. Recine Jr. MANAHAWKIN â€" Tony Recine passed into eternity peacefully in the presence of his loving wife of 52 years, Dina, during the mid-afternoon of Saturday, May 20 at the Southern Ocean Medical Center. Born on June 28, 1932, he was a month shy of reaching his 91st birthday. The son of the late Anthony T. and Lena (Dileo) Recine, Sr. of Trenton, and brother of the late Thomas Recine, Lucy Cammisa, Leonard Recine and Donald Recine, he is survived by his wife Dina (Mastrangeli) Recine; son Domnick of New York, New York, son Anthony III, daughter-in-law Zeyda, and grandsons Anthony IV and Luke, all of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Gail Recine, Giuseppina and Luciano Priori and Paula and Joseph Fabrizi; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Trenton, Tony was a proud member of the 1948 American Legion National Champion Trenton Schroths Post 93 baseball team and a member of The Baron Athletic Association, where he enjoyed playing Bocce. He graduated from Trenton Central High School and Trenton State Teachers College in 1950 and 1960 respectively. Tony was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served honorably aboard the Ambrose Light Ship in New York Harbor and at Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. An exceptional baseball player and avid student of the game, Tony was a player and coach for several local semi-pro baseball teams during the 1950's and early 1960's that included Lambertville, Jersey Shore Red Sox, and the Young Republicans. He was a second baseman for his varsity high school and college baseball squads, having been awarded the Trenton State College Player of the Year for the 1960 season. Later in life he was head baseball coach for the Trenton Central High School Tornados from 1977 to 1985, having been named the 1983 Mercer County High School Baseball Coach of the Year by The Trentonian. Tony was employed by the Trenton Board of Education as physical education teacher and driving instructor at Junior High School #2 and Trenton Central Highs School, having retired in 1992 after 30 years in the teaching profession. Following retirement, Tony and Dina left the Trenton area and moved permanently to their Jersey Shore summer home in Beach Haven West, Stafford Township, where they resided the last 20 years. Tony was a virtuous, very outgoing and energetic individual who cultivated many lifelong, treasured friendships, and was well liked and respected among the countless teammates, students, and colleagues who had the good fortune to be within his circle. He will be most remembered by those who loved him as the devoted patriarch selflessly dedicating his time, efforts and concerns to the well-being of his family and friends, who now mourn his departure from their lives in this world. The Funeral will be held 10:00 am Friday, May 26, 2023 at D'Errico Funeral Chapel, LLC, 30 Yardville Allentown Road, Hamilton, NJ 08620, located in the Buklad-Merlino Facility. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 626 South Olden Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08629 Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, 400 Woolsey Street, Hamilton, NJ 08610. Mr. Recine was my driving instructor at Trenton High many moons ago. I would think of him from time to time driving down a particular street that we had a disagreement about. He was really a great instructor and all around great guy.

Mr. Recine was an excellent driver education teacher-tough but kind. (Even today, more than 50 years later, I hear his voice in my head when I´m behind the wheel: "Avoid confrontation." "Move your car!" and the ultimate condemnation of another driver, "What a hot dog!"). He also took time to give me advice when I was having trouble adjusting to contact lenses! I have always remembered him with gratitude, and I´ve tried to live up to what he wrote in my yearbook: "Be a good driver always."
Please accept my sympathy on his passing.

So sad to read about Mr. Recine's passing...he was my teacher for Health/Drivers Ed class. I still remember when he was marking my test for the written portion of Driver's Ed he looked at w such a straight face I thought oh no, but then he nodded that I passed and all was well in my world. I still have my card. Rest in heavenly peace Mr. Recine.

Coach was one of a kind! I had the pleasure to know him as fellow Baron A A Member, Chambersburg resident and most of all, as my coach at the Great Trenton Central High - class of `82.
As a former world champion on the Trenton Schroth´s he was proven winner and always demanded the best out of his teams.
He had classic lines:
"Look at him sashaying on the field"- "Banjo" - "can of corn".
I would call him every so often for my hour long reminiscing of the old days at the High, the Baron´s or the Burg.
He will be missed- now St Peter give him a fungo and towel for around his neck for 3pm practice.

Mr. Recine taught me to drive in 1983. Don´t blame him. He was a cool cat. I remember him loosing it when we started practicing driving. May he rest in eternal peace and thank God for all his service and patience.

Tony was a great influence in my life as a junior high school student who loved the game of baseball. As a ball player he taught me discipline and how to compete through hard work in order to become successful. Tony and I share in common as graduates from both Trenton Central High and Trenton State College. My condolences go out to Tony's family, and may he rest in peace.

Mr. Recipe was my driver´s ed teacher at TCHS. We practiced behind the wheel every night after school until we mastered his demands. Lots of fun but scary passing every tractor trailer to and from Seaside Heights. One of the best things I learned in high school. Rest in Peace Mr Recine

I one of the lucky baseball players who played for coach Racine at jr.#3,1964-66.
Under his outstanding coaching and leadership we won two city championships in the competitive junior high league.
I marveled at how knowledgeable he was in every aspect of the game and how organized his practices were.
He was a great role model for me and I will never forget how much he taught me about baseball and life.
Rest in peace coach, I know you´re in heaven playing second base and coaching with the great Lou limato.
