Charlie served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sheet Metal Workers Union where he honed his craft in metal and copper work. Charlie loved his “ Oldies “ and Elvis music which you could always hear playing around the house. My condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie's family and friends. I knew Charlie growing up in N. Trenton and he was a good friend. We lost touch in our adult years but just as he was a great childhood friend, I'm sure he was an even better adult.
RIP

My condolences and thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie's family and friends. I knew Charlie growing up in N. Trenton and we were friends, a really great person. Lost touch in our adult years, but knowing how he was as a young person, I'm sure he was a even greater person as an adult.
RIP.

To the whole McStravick family,

I was deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news that my favorite baseball coach had passed! He was a fantastic teacher and mentor whom I looked up to lovingly throughout my younger years. Although we haven't seen each other in quite some time, you all are an important and wonderful part of many fond memories! You are an awesome family and I still think of you often! Sending love and hugs!

The world lost an amazing man this past Sunday, more importantly my dad lost his best friend and I lost another hero. Charles McStravick, or Uncle Chalie as we called him, has been a part of our lives from the very beginning.
He and my father found each other at the age of 14 when my Dad was playing stickball and Chalie was riding by on his bicycle. He had been at a friend's house playing records. They had no idea how that chance encounter would change their lives.
They bonded over everything they had in common... cars, music and sports to name a few. Fritz's diner was their meeting spot, talking for hours about anything and everything.
Before either of them could drive, my grandfather gave my dad the deposit for a Chevy Bel Air. The color was Devine Pearl but if you asked Uncle Chalie it was pink. They were so excited to have a car that they'd drive it up and down the street along the curb or just sit inside and talk for hours. There are many more funny stories during that time but not sure either would appreciate me repeating some.
Sometime later, Chalie began dating a wonderful woman named Barbara Czarnecki and my Dad began dating my mom. Chalie and Barbara would marry first and my parents a bit later. Chalie was a groomsman in my parents wedding and my parents are Godparents to one of his sons.
During the time that followed, there was the birth of children (2 boys and a girl for them), the war and the ups and downs of life. But no matter what happened, good or bad; Uncle Chalie was there every step of the way. There for our birthdays, holidays, sacraments, graduations, weddings, funerals, (lots more stories)etc. He fills the photo albums of my life.
As many know, my father began to experience health issues starting in his 40s, off and on, until even now. One of the worse times was when my Dad was diagnosed with colon cancer and was given a terminal diagnosis.
I will never forget that Christmas when the entire McStravick clan gathered at our house to rally around him during his chemo and radiation. I remember my Dad was chilled to the bone because of his significant weight loss and we had the heat up to almost 85 degrees in the house. Most of us would go outside for some cool air (it was Dec). I remember someone complaining about the heat and Uncle Chalie telling them, John needs it hot so it stays hot, whatever it is he needs...I'm here to make sure he gets it. And that was the end of the complaining.
Uncle Chalie was one of the most loving men I had ever met. Now mind you, he could joke and tease you like nobody else but was always a sweet heart. He always had that twinkle in his eye when he smiled at you and great hugs when you needed it. He, and my Dad, taught me so much...about the Yankees, old music and how a man loves his wife, his kids and his family. And that is what we will always be! My love to my Aunt Barbara, and Charlie, Alex and Tina and their families!
