Sorry to hear. I just learn of this after a new clip on Nia Long.
I had not visited in many years and recently though of him. You did so much for my education from Jr. High beyond. It was always a pleasure to listen to your stories, the poetry, to see your style, to hear how proud you were of your daughters and for providing an example for young black males. Thank you ever, so much. My deepest condolences to the family. Rest in Power, Doc! One Love

With Doc Long's passing the city of Trenton NJ has lost an awesome local resource and an under-sung treasure in the education of our youth; as well as others who only needed to ask to be privy to his vast storehouse of knowledge and know how about any number of things. His empathy, encouragement, warmth, and loving-ness is greatly missed. What a splendid man God gave us. And took away all too soon. I, and many others are richer for having known him.

To the daughters, grandsons and other family members of Doughtry "Doc" Long...
May the Lord comfort and console you at this difficult time. Know that Doc did accept the Lord, Jesus Christ, in his life a few months ago. Therefore, I trust that his soul is now abiding in the Lord's presence.
Doc,
One day I shall see you "on the other side."
Blessings & Love

My sincere condolences to the beloved daughters and family members of the late "Doc" Long. I first met Doc at a Summer Institute for Trenton Educators hosted by Princeton University. It was an unique experience to witness the academic prowess of Doc Long and the late Dr. Jack Washington as they challenged the University professors. Much later, I had the opportunity to teach with Doc at Trenton High School - West campus. My admiration for his scholarly endeavors increased exponentially. He is a national treasure. He touched the lives of so many - students, teachers, administrators, even prison inmates. I am blessed that our paths crossed. May his spirit rest in Paradise and his soul rise in Glory. Amen.

Condolences to the family of Doughtry Long, Jr. I met him many years ago when he was a host teacher for the Program in Teacher Preparation at Princeton University. I saw him often when he visited campus for the many meetings and conferences associated with building a program of teacher education at Princeton, which in the past did not have one. Among the many host teachers who worked with the program, Mr. Long was only one of a handful of African- American male teachers who who also worked with the program. He stood as an examples of passionate teacher educators. The Princeton students had noting but great thins to say about him. He shall be missed by all who knew him.
