He was my friend and mentor as a young soldier and NCO. Chuck, scarcely a day goes by that I don't wish I could talk to you or hear your thoughts on things. When God's finished with me here, I hope they've got a lot of good coffee we can enjoy! I miss you and thank you. Mary Jean, I pray you're doing well. A delightful lady and great friend... I remember Chuck calling you, "Huddy's Buddy!"

He was my cousin and we were paratroopers. I had my picture taken with him when he came out of the NCO Academy at Ft Benning. I cried at his funeral.

I first met Chuck at the age of about 10. Our dad's were stationed at Ft. Meade and we were a match. That match lasted until Chuck's passing, but we will be together again someday. In July of 1967 I was commissioned a 2nd Lt. and Chuck was ready to raise his hand and join the US Army. He waited for months until I was able to swear him in, because we were a life-long match. I watched Chuck move through the ranks and my pride was immeasurable.
Chuck's untimely passing had an pronounced affect on me, and like many others, I think of him always. Mary Jean, I think of you also and hope that you are well and happy.
Chuck was instrumental in getting my son an interview for the Old Guard. He was accepted and worked hard to please my fried. At Chuck's funeral at Arlington, Mary Jean said Chuck wanted my son to wear his CIB bracelet. He does, proudly.
RIP my friend.

Chuck, even after all these years there's scarcely a day go by I don't think of you at some point, and every time hear the voice of "The Bear" in my head as clearly as if you were right beside me. You were a leader, a mentor, and a very beloved friend. I look forward to seeing you again when my time comes. And Mary Jean -- never doubt for one second how many of us loved and respected him. We still do. Always will.

Sergeant Huddy, you were one GREAT man! We served together in Vietnam, I was a Platoon Leader and you were a squad leader. I just finished talking to you when a 122mm rocket came in and I had the reflex action to dive for a bunker. I remained tormented for years wondering if I should have hollered out a warning, but it would have been too late. It took me over 40 years to visit the wall in D.C. because I did not want to see your name up there. Last year, I got to take briefly with Captain Mackey, our CO and he told me you were in the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Tears came down my face as I realized you survived the incoming rocket. I am so sorry to hear that you have passed on...there was so much to talk about. The First Cavalry was something else!
You were a dedicated, unselfish soldier who always put the men first. I will always remember you. May God keep you in his loving care....

He was my Platoon Sergeant, Sergeant Of The Guard, and twice my First Sergeant. He was also my mentor and good friend. He was my example of what an NCO should be. I'm fortunate to have known him so well and to have served with him several times. Mary Jean, I remember when the 2 of you opened your home at Ft McNair for us on Christmas Eve of 1981 because Chuck didn't want any of the troops alone. I treasure his memory.

For those who have served with CSM Albert Huddy, USASMA Class 22, and those currently serving in our ranks, are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring the NCO Corps has always been tainted by the bitterness of personal sacrifice and service. He was a terrific soldier and perhaps more importantly a better person and a great mentor. He will be truly missed by the entire NCO Corps community. Let us pray that CSM Huddy will rest in His ranks. The NCO Corps thanks him for his selfless service act and his willingness to defend the United States of America and all that we hold sacred. Though tears can never bring him back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that they made and our sorrow at his passing. We believe for every fallen sergeant major like them there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given May God forever watch over, protect him and the family. Be thou at Peace.

SFC Albert Huddy was my 1st platoon sergeant when I arrived to the Old Guard in 1977. As an 18 year old kid, I looked up to this man as he was not only a leader but a teacher with patience as he helped to mold me into a solider and a responsible young man. He supported my move from 1st platoon to CCG and I was very grateful to him for that. I had the great fortune to talk with him at last years Old Guard Reunion which was the first time that I had seen him since leaving the Old Guard in 1980. I was able to thank him for being one of my life mentors and one of the reasons that I have found success in my career as a Healthcare CEO. Thank you CSM Huddy for making the world a better place. Rest in peace.

SOLDIERS NEVER DIE UNTIL THEY ARE FORGOTTEN
**TOMB GUARDS NEVER FORGET**
Albert C. "Chuck" Huddy was my Platoon Sergeant when I was reassigned from duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to the First Marching Platoon, E. Company, The Old Guard! Then Sergeant First Class Huddy was my mentor and helped me to become a better Squad Leader by leading by example, he was a genuinely nice guy who cared about his soldiers. Years later I had the pleasure of seeing him again at a Society of the Honor Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier reunion and we talked about old times. The world is a better place because Albert C. "Chuck" Huddy was here. Thanks Chuck!
The Society of the Honor Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Moto is; "Soldiers never die until they are forgotten, tomb guards never forget." So you see Chuck will never be forgotten as a soldier even though he was many more things as a man. Chuck rest in peace you have left your mark on all us you have touched with just being you!
